Looks as if they are posturing for the world to see. The ship left so they could have their naval exercises and now they want to act big and bad with a warning like that? They might have a hard time defending that stand if the US ship returns to the gulf.
I agree it would be a mistake if they convinced themselves to follow through on their threats....
Iranian rhetoric. Sticking their chest up. My guess is you will see a new carrier group in there shortly. "Hey Iran....make my day". :-)

Oh no, its part of their military exercises that include:
1. Finding downed aircraft.
2. Rescuing shot down pilots
3. Assisting warships in peril
4. Mass casualty exercises
5. Mass grave registration and military funerals.
Really, I see it as a "learning experience" for the Iranian Armed Forces. :)

The best take I have read on it states that these threats are a sure sign that Iran is feeling the hurt from sanctions.
They will probably end up being as isolated (and starved) as N Korea.

Maybe....maybe not.
North Korea really could not reach out and "hurt" us. Iran can.
Iran has a pretty formidable military. Lots of knockoff and copied equipment. Lots of weapons......AND they are CRAZY.

I believe Iran is much stronger militarily than IRAQ ever was. I hope we don't have to find out......

Its doubtful they will make a military move on an american warship but they are pretty well nuts so they may... if they do I suspect they will lose the equipment they choose to use in any such attack, I hope if it comes to that we don't decide beings they fired the first shot we need to go in there and change the politics of the country as we did in Iraq... Hopefully Mr Obama has the restraint that George Bush Sr. had in 1991 and can recognize when the job is done.
North Korea CAN reach out and hurt us... they can provoke a war with South Korea, an ally we are treaty-bound to protect. And they are every bit as "crazy" as Iran, IMHO. I see a lot of similarity in the behavior of the two regimes.

They (Iran and N. Korea) are both nuts!! The religious fever in Iran make them more scarry to me, though neither are rational. Kinda a rock and a hard place, do we nuke them because they are developing nukes? Best case is to build strong (very strong) consensus among our allies and other rational countries to enforce severe sanctions and if they become agressive have a "severe" response from our allies and the rational world. Not just token representaion but a truely unified effort. Then nuke em.
I kind of like Newt's plan....cut off the import of gasoline to Iran, then sabotage what few refineries that they have.
It's hard to pedal your way to World domination. It's hard to row-row-row your fleet of ships because they've got no fuel.
Only bomb as a last resort if Iran is determined to ignore the International outcry against them becoming nuclear armed.

I LIKE IT.................
Interesting... now a part of that same carrier strike group has rescued an Iranian fishing vessel, hijacked by Somali pirates.
