Cumberland stripers
A short report from last night. Hopefully it will help a few folks who might hit it tonight. Main lake, pea gravel banks worked best for us. Earlier on we got them subsurface (bucktail and shallow runners). After midnight started getting them on top too. Points were real good (as they always are). Caught plenty on the banks away from the points. Heard very few blow ups. Some alewifes up, but not real thick. Walleye hitting too, but couldn't hook those (friggin walleye!). Only three keepers (released), but plenty of shorts, mostly 222-23 3/4 inch.

Re: Cumberland stripers
same thing this morning. did see a huge school surface in lilly at 9 am this morning caught a bunch out of the school pulling boards through it but all shorts. hit 5 keepers on downrods at 30 feet under the same school of shallow shorts.
apb did you throw the gizz4 any? they been whackin it, caught several big flatheads on it too.

Re: Cumberland stripers
Was throwing some of my own wood plugs. Jointed surface bait and a shallow (< 1 foot) subsurface did most of the work for me. Partner threw a variety of stuff (red fin, jointed thunder stick, bomber, etc.).

Flatheads? Now that has to be a big surprise. How big were they?

Re: Cumberland stripers
Scott we've caught. Flatheafds for years cramming at night on herrington. And caught a few over the years on cland. But over the last 2 weeks. We've caught 6 or 7 most are less than 8 lbs but one was 44imches no idea what it weighed. They were all caught on 10 pound p-line and they all accepted the invite to supp er lol. Man the stripes sure do love that thing

Re: Cumberland stripers
I'm thinking of getting out of work one day this week and pulling some bait around in the early morning. Would main lake be the place to be?

Re: Cumberland stripers
Main lake I have heard works. They are definitely out there. I have heard them at night. They are up in the creeks too. Caught some good sized ones (26- almost 30") about half way up creek last weekend in the morning and before dark. The key (for me) was fishin 20' or deeper. I pulled bait also at 14' to surface and only caught channel cats. Every day I found stationary schools (hour or more) off points and steeper walls in 35-45 feet of water and also one evening 45' deep fish (comfirmed) in 60 feet of water. They weren't moving much which I guess means they were inactive but they would take alewives if you could stay over them.
Contradicting the above, one was very shallow and very lose to the bank.

The KY DNR is working on lower the Striper size limit to 22 inches. I read it on Fishin.com.
Hey Andrew, sold my home at Cland last summer. Went down a few weeks ago and cleaned
out boat storage and brought the boat and all home. Going to fish Indiana lakes and Erie this season.
