Countdown to Ky Lake
T-minus 7 days! Have had this trip planned since December and can not wait. Have Dave scheduled for Wednesday and this is my dads first trip to ky. Launching out of Jonathan creek and hoping those pretty yellow flowers get some water around them before we get there. Looks like a good chance of good weather for fishing. Hope to get on them good. Will report on the trip.

Re: Countdown to Ky Lake
Feel the same way all year, pumped beyond belief until i read water levels!:(Less than 5 daays for us to are yearly barkley trip and my flippin bite. But they are out of water almost on the bank. My excitement levels have disappeared! Don't get me wrong feel blessed to get oppertunity to go! But I live to throw a blade over the flowers and anything softplastic in a bush. That is why a wait til the 1st week of May! It is the whole reason we plan our trips at this time. Can't believe I'd almost rather go to St. Clair instead. I know they are really been catchin then. But that is not the point. It is the kind of bite, the way. i can drag a ball and chain at home. I dont get to flip up here. My lakes are clean of bank cover like ky and barkley when water is too low. Stop complaining again, just disappointing.:(Praying for just alittle of last years rain!!!!!!

Re: Countdown to Ky Lake
I'm there with you about the bushes and flowers, but don't fret it. One of my biggest bags came around this same time of year on a lead in bank to a spawnig flat. Its nice when u cull 3lbers. No rain in the 10 day forecast, check all options and make adjustments. I'll take a good blade bite anyday, doesn't have to be over bushes or flowers. Lol. Good luck to ya!

Re: Countdown to Ky Lake
We went to KY for a bachelor party this weekend and fished Jonathan Creek both days as we stayed at Sportsmans Lodge....Couldn't have ordered any worse weather...We got there on Fri afternoon and fished about 30 minutes before the rain moved in and the water temp was 71...Sat morning it was down to 65 and Sun morning it was down to 63...We still managed to catch around 70-80 fish in a day and a half but we had to slow wayyy down....We could have left all of our moving baits at home...Sat morning our best 5 would have went around 15lbs and Sat after lunch our best 5 woulda was 13lbs...Another boat that went had 17lbs Sat afternoon but they had some live bait and had 2 big smallies...I had a smallie about 5lbs right at the boat in Jonathan before it came off...Plenty of fish to be caught but we just never found any big girls

Re: Countdown to Ky Lake
How far back in Jonathon Creek did you go? Outside the bridge or thru the bridge to the back.

Re: Countdown to Ky Lake
I wouldn't hesitate to drive up to St. Claire! That lake is on fire right now! You'll enjoy KY Lake though. There's still lots of pitching and flipping targets in the water.

Re: Countdown to Ky Lake
we fished everywhere from the mouth to back past the sportsmans lodge cove on the other side of the bridge and caught fish everywhere

Re: Countdown to Ky Lake
Thats what I like to hear. Fish biting everywhere. I dont care what I catch as long as the bass are biting. I like the 10 day forecast for the water temps chances of rising, but doesnt look like theres any chance of water coming up. Oh well, no one said fish had to be in bushes to build a bed! LOL! Sounds like a good chance for a blade bite! I could only hope!

Re: Countdown to Ky Lake
98% of our fish came on a shakey head...We threw everything in the box but that was about all we could get them to bite

Re: Countdown to Ky Lake
Thanks for the info we will still go to Barkley. Afraid of the wind on the great lakes this time of year can be more of it and often. Thanks for the input of targets in the water. Appreciate it!

The bass season on St. Clair doesn't open until this Saturday, and it's immediate catch and release until the 3rd Saturday in June. Until this Saturday (4/28) you aren't allowed to even fish for bass on St. Clair, THEY WILL WRITE YOU A TICKET, or worse!!!
