Smallies from elkhorn (pic heavy)
Headed down to elkhorn creek over the weekend to try my hand at small mouths. Never caught anything huge but had a great time. It amazes me how much even the small ones fight. There were 12-15 fish caught all on a 4" wacky rigged senko.

Re: Smallies from elkhorn (pic heavy)
Best i can figure is that all the big ones may have been on the nest already. Although I did hook into a couple that felt waay larger than the biggest I've in the pic but they spit the hook. All in all I had a great time and cannot wait to go back in a month or two.

Love creek fishing. If you are after smallmouth, try out Floyds Fork sometime, I've caught 3 3lb+ smallies out of there this year as well as a ton of FAT rock bass.

Re: Smallies from elkhorn (pic heavy)
Hi Tacklebox,
Very nice creek smallies. It looks like you had a good day.How were you fishing your wacky rigged Senko?Split shot above the hook, slow retrieve, or twitching
along the bottom?I usually use watermelon or watermelon flake colors.I've had a lot of luck at Otter Creek; but little at Elkhorn. Also, did you throw into deeper holes or fast water? Overall, Senkos & Tubes are my favorite smallmouth baits.
Thanks,
Kurt
Re: Smallies from elkhorn (pic heavy)
I was just using the senko with no weight.I was using watermelon with black flake. I wasn't having much luck in deep pools. I tried twitching, slow retrieve, etc with no luck. I caught all of the fish by tossing it upstream in the faster water and letting it drift.
How far is otter creek from Ashland ?

Just below the moving water in holes and eddys are money late May - late June. Love that kind of fishing!

Pretty streams and smallies, it just doesn't get any better.

Thanks! I'll probably hit up Beshears Creek in the next few weeks. I haven't been down there in a while. It's right behind my house. I know it used to be some really good fishing down there when I was a kid...Now I have kids of my own. Man how time flies.
