Met a man at the ramp last night that said an 11.6 was caught there in the last couple weeks. Supposedly he was told this by a CO that witnessed/verified the fish. Any truth to it?

I have not heard anything but then again I've not been over there much since it go so hot. I'd ask the guy who works for IDNR about it though. He should be one who would have known if anything like that were caught.
The CO's are so busy on the Ohio River that I don't see them at Bluegrass anymore. The guy at the launch ramp taking fish measurements is Boyd. Ask him if you see him and let us know.
It would not surprise me if someone caught a fish that big out of there though. I hooked into a nice fish the other day but it got off. I figure it was 3 or 4 lbs and each time I tell the story it gets bigger. LOL :)
I've caught a few big bass out of bluegrass....most of them where caught when Bluegrass had just became public. I've got an 8 and a 10.5# on my wall that came from there. I have caught and released several good ones from some of the smaller pits there. I don't do a whole lot of bass fishing anymore but for me, in the past bluegrass had always been a good place for quality bass...as hard as the place gets hit I'm sure the bass fishing is nothing like it use to be there. I'd like to hit bluegrass and do some bass fishing in the near future...so if anyone wants tag a long, let me know!

I talked to Mike(CO) this past sunday on the ohio river and he had only heard of the 9lber that was caught and released.
I don't care.......I don't fish it. Only been one time and the 20 boats were enough to drive me away.

There are big fish in that the 3 main pits. Most locals who fish it a lot just don't talk about them. Do I believe a 11# bass out of bluegrass? Absolutely. Is it over fished and way to many fish below the 18" min are kept? Yes. Are way to many 5#+ fish kept? Again yes. Will it sustain it's current level of fishing? Nope.

Thanks for the input. I hope it does put more pressure on that lake, it's my least favorite of all the lakes out there. I enjoy the peace and quite on the others.
Honestly though I doubt my little post will make a difference. Someone would have had to of lived under a rock the last 10yrs to not know what the lake produces. Between the Internet and the newspaper articles I'd say the cat was already out of the bag.

You're probably right. I don't think a post here will "unhide" a gem, but it may very well solidify some information someone "thought" was legit.
I get the same thing from a lot of my friends about my website and posting stuff about certain lakes up North.
If someone is willing to make the 17 hr trek north, and then portage 20 miles into the BUSH, they they DESERVE to have a little additional information. 90% of folks are unwilling to do that.

I'm not sure how much more fishing pressure bluegrass's main pit can stand. It's getting more pressure since I started fishing it in 2003. Ever since they started allowing gas motors to be used on these pits the number of boats has increased significantly.

Fished for a couple hrs Wednesday afternoon. Didn't catch a lot but did have 2 keepers, biggest going 21".
Went over to Bluegrass F&W area around 11 am and only saw two or three boats on Bluegrass Pit and a couple of kayaks on Loon Pit. It was already in the 90's by then.
Everyone may have already gone home by then.

Yes it's true from what I heard from IDNR. An older lady and her younger daughter caught the bass in one of the smaller pits. These pits don't get the fishing pressure that the big three pits do. These two have been fishing the pits at Bluegrass a lot this summer from what I heard.
And they returned the fish back to the water after they caught it so it can reproduce and live a bit longer. They are good stewards of the Environment. Wish we have a lot more people like them.
The parking lot at Bluegrass has about 6 or 7 boat trailers this morning. I don't think that they will be there after it gets hot. I drove over earlier to check on the area to see how many boats were in the parking lots. It was already over 80 deg F by the time I got over there. It's going to be another HOT day this Sunday.
