For those of you with young children "Read"

Everyone always tells you to enjoy them when they are young...tonight I want you to really think about that! It seems like only yesterday I was taking my little man everywhere with me, he was my shadow and I was his hero, he wanted to do everything with Dad. I am happy to say he turned into a fine fisherman and a even better young man. Last week I dropped him off at Ft Leonard Wood so the Army can teach him how to be a soldeir. I am so very proud of him, but I am going to miss my little fishing buddy so very much! I wish he didnt have to grow up so quickly and he was still my little man! I miss him so much and my heart aches for my fishing buddy! I love you Chase and I am very proud of you....but why did you have to grow up so quick!!! Take your kids fishing with you because one day they do grow up!!! Sorry if this is sappy, but you dont get those days back!

I'm there with ya. When My first son was born I named him Fisher and call him Fish, My second son Christian isn't much of a fisherman, but a football player. Fisher has been fishing with me since he was early single digits. Now he 14 and in high school. a couple buddies and I are trying to get the H/S fishing team together, so I can coach and hopefully spend more time with both of them and any other young guys/gals that need that father figure. ( I think If your a coach that kinda of puts the spotlight on them, and hopefully will spur Christians Interest too)..

It's funny, I didn't think I could love anything in this world more than my first son. I told my dad that I was scared that i wouldn't love my second son the same or enough. He laughed and said you will, it's just different... I didn't realize it until I saw him come out.. It was true, I loved him the same amount, just different..

Sir, you literally have me on the verge of tears right now. I am a young veteran myself and what you wrote really struck home as I have 2 little ones myself. From the bottom of my heart thank you for sharing your story. Your son is now in a lifelong brotherhood and wish him all the best and thank him for his decision to join. When my oldest son graduated high school...I was thinking, is he really that old....still just my little boy. When he swore into the military...I was thinking, is he really that old...still just my little boy. When I stood at attention as they pinned on his SGT stripes...I was thinking, is he really that old...still just my little boy. He told me a couple of weeks ago that he was putting in his retirement papers....I am thinking...is he really that old...he is still just my little boy. What I have realized with him and my other two sons, they are all still just my little boys...I am the only one getting old.

What a great post I have been through it once and now my little granddaughter is a Junior in high school and is driving, my two grandsons are 11 and 6 they are all growing up to fast and they are making me an old man. I did not like it when my son and daughter grew up and left home and now it is happening again. With all that said I have great memories and I am very proud of all of them.

There is another side to this. I started fishing with my Dad when I was four years old. We fished together until he died with lung cancer 32 years ago, which seeems like yesterday. Two weeks ago I was able to buy a boat he always dreamed of owning but could not afford. It is not a new one, just a boat that will serve me well for what time I have left to fish. I could not help to think what it would be like to have him with me now that I have the boat, time and money to take him places he never got to fish. Fathers must also be aware, if they have a son that likes to fish with their Dad, they too must realize their son(s) will miss them just as much. So Dad's that care of your health, live long and be thankful you have a children that love so much.

Another side of these stories are the next generation, grandchildren. I'm now enjoying my 13 year old granddaughter and 10 month old grandson. I'm taking the oldest fishing and hunting now and have the youngest in the bull pen warming up if I can stick around that long. No stopping time, it goes faster every year it seems. Enjoy your family and friends while you can.

My son CHASE turns 10 this March. Hard also to believe. THanksfor the reminder to cherish the time. Thankyou to your son for his service to our country and protectingour fredaom!

I really love this post and want to add it. I'm 32 years old and have a family of my own now. 8 years ago this month my dad went home to be with the Lord from a massive heart attack. The most important thing he ever taught me was to put God first in everything and I have always tried to do that. But I will never forget the times that we would travel to the nearest fishing hole with our fishing poles and some night crawlers. It didn't matter if we caught anything or not I was just happy to be fishing with my hero!!! God has now given me and my wife 2 precious boys 5yr old and 2yr old and I'm trying my best to live out what my dad taught me. I love to fish but there's nothing more precious and exciting than seeing the happiness on my boys faces when they or myself catch a fish!!! Thank You again for starting this post.
