Whopper of a longear?
I'm trying to determine the size of a Longear I caught this weekend on my uncles land.
This is recently acquired land and besides two weeks ago I didn't know what a longear was.
But if you don't mind can you took a look and tell me what you think.
I also included a picture of a bluegill.

It could be a hybrid bluegill. I've caught those in farm ponds and were told that's what they were.

Bluegill looks to be about 8" long, unless you have BIG hands. The other fish looks more like a Green Sunfish, than a Longear. A Longear would be more red/blue coloration, while the Green Sunfish is more green/blue. Green Sunfish also have large mouths, while Longear have small mouths like Bluegill.
No way to tell length/size of that fish ... nothing to compare it against.

The one on the right is a Hybrid Bluegill, not a doubt in my mind.....
These are purchased from the KDFWR and are a cross between a Shellcracker and Bluegill..
BTW that is a beautiful male Gill on the left, perfect specimen...:)

I think the Hybrid is a cross between a green sunfish and a bluegill.

If this is a Hybrid, is the only way to get them from the KDFWR?
There is some nice bluegill in this pond.
Thanks again...

I think you may be correct my good man....Sorry for that a brain toot

That's not a longear sunfish. Green sunfish or some sort of hybrid. I'd bet the pond is full of them.

There are other entities that sell fish. Check on the internet for availablity. Those things get huge and are very aggressive and will even hit Bass baits once they are large enough...

We helped place these in several ponds of my buddies. I would bet you something nice that is a Hybrid Bluegill. Send a pic to the Department and I will place a wager I am right.

That's a green sunfish hybrid. They will outcompete the bluegill and every generation gets smaller and smaller.
