Garmin Montana GPS unit has solunar tables
We all know seasonal and weather changes affect the behavior of fish, but the effect of moon phases on fishing we all need to keep in mind as well. Most of us don’t look at the moon phase when we go fishing. We just go fishing when we can and let the chips fall as they may. But there are times when fish react to natural forces in their surroundings. By knowing when these forces are occurring, we may increase our catch. For example, if we observe the times when sunrise and sunset and moonrise and moonset coincide with new or full moon phases, one may find the best times to fish. Often fish are most active an hour or so during each of these four daily events. Everyone would agree that during dusk and dawn is a great time to be fishing, but don’t forget the other two stronger periods, the moonrise and moonset. The trick is to find out when the sun and moon will rise and set regardless of the fact the rise and set of the new moon is invisible, or an overcast weather pattern may be hiding the moon. Studies have proven moon phases greatly affect larger fish, so a lot of trophy fish are caught during new or full moon phases. Maybe this simplifies fishing moon phases a bit.
I use my Montana 650 T to tell me when to hunt and fish. It will tell me the best time and the good times to fish. I go fishing when I can but I like to compare my results to the solunar tables after I catch some fish.
I have more confidence while fishing during what the solunar tables predicts to be excellent times. Often they fall in the middle of the night though. Some times they fall in the early morning hours.
I can also see where the sun and moon are located in the sky on any particular day I choose. The other day when the solunar tables predicted the fishing to be excellent I noticed that the sun and moon were both in the same part of the sky and chasing each other for a entire day. I can project the solar positions and hour at a time into the future or back into the past as far as I want to go. It's fun to play with the solunar tables when they are computerized.
