Man I think it's sad that this is what you and many people think this is about. I don't find a lot of humor or backhanded jokes about this action. Take a look at what is being closed down and tell me how any of that helps. But that being said.....now I think it needs to stay shut until people actually get pissed and stop playing this political game.

The country is skrewed up because of both parties and IMO since the dems have had years of complete unchecked power and now split power in congress they are more to blame and are acting like little spoiled rotten babies.
I don't know what kind of damage is being done to fellow Americans from this and I'm sorry for anyone affected by these idiots. I'm very pissed that people are elected to lead and they don't. They steal, break the law, lie, instigate racial fights and class warfare, pit American against American and walk around as if they are royalty.
They don't get hurt by this shutdown since the majority of them are wealthy and they are getting paid anyway....but you wanna bet some will take their paycheck and spend it like they have no responsibility in this madness.

I wonder if we are still giving billions to foreign aid? Either slated to give more or we gave some right before this krap! How many programs for kids or elderly are being hurt while we continue to pay politicians.

So is the shutdown helping?? Find someone who is getting the gubment shaft or having their vacation plans changed because of childish closings by our wonderful leaders and ask them. As for me...it hasn't affected me at all...yet!

Your social security should NEVER be cut. You were made a promise years ago. Likewise, I think if you're a person like me ( been paying social security for 30 years), it should be somewhat protected. BUT future generations, those who voted for Obama and the hope and change......THEY should get the hope and change the voted for......including all the debt associated with paying Kygorski's and my Social Security.

I hope to not have to use SSI, but I'm not going to turn it down........

Now, the Cost of Living increases in SSI.......maybe those need to be adjusted, and change them so they are not tied to CPI.

If we go into Default and can't pay our debts they will stop paying Social Security to the retired people and that's going to be a screwed up mess that will really piss me off big time. You want to see a march on Washington full or retires then just let the deadline for the debt ceiling laps and see what happens.

I just retired this last February and am finally able to get back some of the money that the Feds took out of my pay checks over the last 40 years.

IMHO they better get moving on something and get the Government back in operation sooner rather than later.

Remember that if we go into default it not only affects Americans but the rest of the world economies. We won't be in good standing with everyone else and they won't lend us money. The world's other leaders are watching to see what we do.

Well Geo you are smarter than most of them then. Medical costs can wipe out a lot of people in a big hurry. Medicare only pays 80% so you need to have a supplemental insurance program to cover the rest. And then one needs prescription drug insurance too.

I had to go get a new prescription yesterday after visiting my Doctor. He prescribed some medicine that I have to take for ten days. I got 20 pills and it cost over 130 dollars for just the medicine.

I have two other pills that both cost over 300 each. Medicine is way too expensive to buy without some type of help.

Just hope and pray that the Government doesn't default and the stock market doesn't tank when people panic like they did back in the 1930's. Stock markets are great when they earn you money but nothing is guaranteed and your stocks can become worthless pieces of paper. You may want to invest in gold before it's too late.

I'm getting a bad feeling about this Government and the way things are going right now. Both sides have dug in their heels and no one is giving an inch. They can't even agree to put this off for another three months or so.

But like others said if they don't take care of the debt and people can't get their social security checks many will be left in a hopeless situation. Most people don't have enough savings to live on that money for the rest of their lives without their social security checks. I'm worried because both sides are not talking like they did in the past.

I would encourage everyone to make contact with their congressman and senators and tell them to get to work on making a deal NOW.

I was watching the news tonight and they were taking about how the Government shut down has shut down the American Crab Fishing Fleet. The Wizzard Crab Fishing Boat is parked at the dock waiting for permits before they can head out to sea and start fishing for crabs. The season starts today or tomorrow or this weekend and they won't have the necessary permits to start fishing in time. The Russians will be out on the Bering Sea fishing and corner the market while our guys sit at the dock losing 1000 dollars a day.

I'm wondering what you think is a better plan DJD? Obviously what we have been doing over the last 50 years has brought us to this point with high medical cost and high drug costs. Do you propose that we continue to do the same thing for the next 50 years knowing that the cost of medicine and drugs far exceeds the normal rate of inflation?

Obamacare is not even started for most people yet you are quick to blame the high price of my medicine on Obamacare. I don't think that Obamacare had anything to do with the price of my meds being over 100 dollars. In fact it's due to what we did before Obamacare even started.

Perhaps we should look at what's going on with health insurance in MA to see how Obamacare will work in the long run. Remember that in MA it's called Romneycare and it's working good there.

I think that everyone would agree that the high costs of medical care needs to be brought under control. At least Obama is trying something new that we know has worked in Massachusetts.

Lantus Insulin is about $199.00/month and Humalog is the same. That's my problem only. Why should my burden be shouldered by others. Yes, it *****, but it's my burden,not yours.

Health insurance of $900.00/month and out of pocket medications at $500.00/month. I therefore request that every member on fishin.com send me $40.00/month to cover my expenses. Does that sound fair?

It's MY PROBLEM AND I'll strive to live and take care of myself,just as I've done all my adult life.

I don't want help from others and if that means we eat Ramon noodles for every meal to cover my medications, so be it.

Do you believe we would stay the country we are and have been if we simply allow people to die if they don't happen to have the resources to pay the cost of the treatment they need?... Do you believe we should simply let folks die from gunshot wounds if they don't have the resources to pay for the ambulance ride to the hospital where they should have to pay for whatever treatment they might need before they are taken into the facility?...After all it's none of our business and it is their problem.... I see you would still be able to "eat ramon noodles" after you pay for whatever treatment you need, not everybody is that fortunate.
