We do not need to raise the debt ceiling we need to cut the size of government in about half, there is tons of departments that are doing duplicate work just look at the millions the IRS is wasting on retreats and crazy training videos, clean up all the waste and fraud. get a system in place that can be accountable for all the monies spent. pass a flat tax cut the IRS in half. The Federal Government is trying to control every aspect of every thing that goes on and that is not what it's function is. It is to protect the US and deal with the foreign policies

The states are responsible for their own domestic policies this it is called state rights and they have been trampled. We will never get the Federal government back to what it is mandated to do unless we cut off the money.

Think about it if we put up a token fight and then we all cave in because we can't default on our debt and raise the debt ceiling every time then we really do not have a debt ceiling this has allowed Obama to raise our debt from 9 trillion to 17 trillion dollars in just six years. He knows that he can be as reckless as he wants and we will pay for his drunken sailor spending.

At some time there has to be a line in the sand this president has sent one budget to congress (his first year) and it did not receive one vote. We have been running the entire federal government on continued spending resolutions and this is why we get into these shut downs. I know they blame the Republicans but folks it is a constitutional responsibility of the president to present a budget every year. If this was done then Obama would be limited to what he could spend so he does not want that. Also we would not have to raise the debt limit every six month we would only have to raise it if the budget that would be passed by the president the house and the senate called for the debt ceiling to be raised.

I would raise the debt ceiling but I would tell the president that we will not raise it again unless we have a budget passed by the time frame of the constitution. He is suppose to be a constitutional scholar and it is about time he follows it.

I totally agree but most of what you typed will not happen....that is the reality. It always has been and when you look at our potus and his record, power and free pass with the press you think something like that will happen under his watch?? Ha, no freakin way!! That would take leadership from both sides and that's not what we have. We have people up there who act based on party strength, upcoming elections, pork spending and personal wars against each other aside from party affiliation. Little to no accountability is in effect in Washington and the position we are in proves that. You think the majority of Americans know what is happening? Nope, they hear about it on a news byte and that's it....just as the crooks in Washington like it.

Your ideas are perfect IMO but its flawed because it's a plan and they don't like plans. They like emergency spending just like the bailouts, obamacare and this continued debt ceiling fiasco. Raising the debt ceiling is nothing new for either party as it has happened 78 times since 1960..

IMO the only thing that will cause a change is a change in attitude up there. What will cause that? An uprising, a voice from the people that we have had enough. They know that so I think the Department of Homeland Security is what will be needed to control that uprising. I think we are nowhere close to that because people are sheep that will do the everyday routine as long as there is still money coming in and food on the table. They know this and since we don't have real leaders who will attempt to stop the Dictatorship we are falling under....we are skrewed until further notice!!
