If the government defaults, the retirement checks stop as does social security checks. Most military retirees count on these checks to be able to survive financially including myself. We paid our dues to earn the retirement checks to keep this country safe. We paid for our Social Secuity as did all Americans drawing the checks after reaching retirement age (not getting them early from some disability). This means there are nearly 2 million of us in this country that are trained in combat, that are not disabled that the government is getting ready to default on our livelihood...how long do you think it will take before we are fed up when the checks stop.
