    freedom, and privacy

Left my home at 0830. drove to the ATM for a couple of bucks, was photographed. Went into the gas station for a cup of coffee, and a pack of smokes. Drove to the court house, parked and went in for jury duty, was scanned, and walked through a security zone. 0900. So I was tracked 3 times in less than a hour. Was I violated? I assume I'm tracked when I logged in just now. It doesn't bother that much. Its the times today. But to find that congress is looking into this is a joke.THEY AUTHORIZED IT. A little something called the Patriot Act. Private securitys and the federal government were given the right to do this. By congress, and they want to know why its happening?. 've got to live with it. How many security cams I pass through a day is unimaginable, but life goes on. Am I more secure?

More secure? Naw just watched and in case you did something they may have evidence against you. Traffic intersections have CCTV cameras, more and more businesses do, more and more homes do and like you mentioned the websites your on leave a trail as well. If you use plastic to pay or cell phones your leaving a trail. Complete privacy can be had by laying around in your house reading a paperback book.

I can understand, where people would think, it's none of anyone's business what I do. and be mad that they are being watched, most everywhere they go. but with so many bad people out there, that don't care what they do, the video cameras will help catch them, when they do a crime. myself, it don't bother me at all, I don't do or have any plans, to do anyone wrong. so they can watch my every move and listen to every phone call, if it will help catch some crook in the act of commenting a crime. as times change, we can't stay the same.

They need to start showing some statistics to back the claims that this surveillance is having its desired effect. I don't plan on doing anything wrong either, but I like to see justification for means employed.

I notice CCTV, security, card access, fire alarm and other systems since that's what I have been doing for a living for 25 years and I can say at times it bothers me to see how much we are being watched. I was at a Kroger store that has been renovated and it was my first time there in a few months. The meat department had 7 cameras!!! Just never thought that there was such a problem with people sticking meat in their pants and walking out.

The last high school we did had 155 cameras installed in it. Hallways, gym, outside and in the office area were covered pretty good. Most of those are IP cameras that sell for $500-$600 each but can go as high as $2000 each. Add recording devices, Poe switches, Ethernet switches, software licenses and monitors and these schools are spending some serious cash!!! Bundle that CCTV system with card access, security and some basic door intercom and you could be talking $500k for that. I have seen some systems packages go as high as 1.5 million dollars! Of course that included Fire Alarm, digital clocks and intercom but that's one school in Fayette county alone. It's costly stuff!
