The second largest TV maker in the world has a feature in their TV that allows it store memory of what you are watching and actually sends the info back to LG. Also a few other brands do it as well and this is suppose to be disclosed by the retailer upon purchase.

It's absolutely an invasion of privacy...especially if you can't turn it off. I'm guessing its one of those smart TVs that have to be hooked to the internet.

What's to say your cable or satellite provider isn't already doing the same?
Hell, AT&T knows my physical location 24/7/365 if they can GPS coordinate my iPhone...and that ain't hard.

Good lord, think about what somebody could gather from Facebook about who you are, what you do, etc.

Who knows what else about your habits get shared around the World...but it's more than we all think. I'll bet the majority of it is used for marketing things to you that you are more predespitioned to buy.

I have an annual contract with a data aggregator that gives me statistics on vehicle registrations, by zip code, for every county we do business in across the US. I use it to get an idea of what tires and tire sizes we are more apt to sell in a market. The makeup of vehicle popularity is different in Jefferson County Kentucky than it is in Mingo County West Virginia, for example...so we use that data to stock the right tires in the right places, and just to get an idea of our potential for volume in a county. The information we get is generic, not specific down to the individual.

Now, this company that we work with HAS vehicle registration info specifically on you, your habits there over time, as well as your income, size of your family, insurance provider, and a whole slew of other metrics. Federal Law says that they can not sell me those specifics on an individual, so I don't know in my data specifically that Mark Hall at 101 Main Street, drives a 2008 Prius and makes $500K a year. But what these companies do, since they do have the data, is build "modeling tools" where they can predict (with alarming accuracy) your characteristics. For example, if I tell them I want a list of addresses for people that are likely to be upper middle class income bracket folks who drive 4WD Chevy Silverado 1500's that are nearly 3 years old, they can generate a remarkably accurate list. Based on the average life cycle and miles driven, I know roughly when those folks are likely to replace their OE tires for the first time. Those are valuable targets for one of my tire dealers who want that business. I can then send that list of addresses direct mailings that advertise upper tier brand (these people have money) all-terrain tires (4wd) that are the right sizes for Chevy Silverado 1500's.

I think most of the eyeballs on your habits, your browsing history, your mag subscriptions, your tv usage, is for the sake of selling you stuff...but you think somebody like the Department of Homeland Security couldn't get their hands on it?

I sure don't trust the government, but I don't think there is much we can do to stop it. I can deal with folks trying to sell me stuff, but I hope there isn't a time in America where folks have to go "off the grid" to get away from Government eyes that want to come take control of what you have.

Wonder if it's just smart tv's like I have that I surf on and they use that internet connection to do that? I'm sure they wrote me off by now because I change the channels so often they prolly think I'm a kid that can't make his mind up!!! I may start leaving a Spanish channel on for maxx while I'm out too! Hahaha maybe I'm gonna have to learn commands in Spanish?!?!?!?

On a more serious note.....I don't like these "cookies" left behind and data research done on what I do on line. On here I now have advertising for golf, cars and boats popping up on the top and side of my screen. I deal with that since I love the site. Computers logging what sites I visit bothers me and as I understand it visiting certain sites may cause you to be watched closer by some law enforcement agencies.

I'm big on not giving info like my SSN to people who think they need it. You would be amazed at folks who don't actually need it they just ask for it because they think they should. A recent visit to a doctors office had me fill out a form asking for that. I asked why and she said because IF we give you narcotics we need that. I said I am here for a doctors opinion on my runners knee injury and you don't need it. She had to ask someone if it was ok to still be seen by the doc. Of course it was...they had my insurance company info and I'm willing up bet could get my SSN if they dug deep enough.

I just don't like info like that floating around a doctors office on a piece of paper. Another time....I Contracted work at Toyota and we worked on a Saturday. They wanted me to complete a form to have access into an office building we were working in and they wanted my SSN. I said no, ain't gonna happen but you can have a copy of my DL. She said but sir we need a record of who you are while visiting here and I laughed and asked what better proof than a state issued picture ID?!?!?

She wouldn't call her boss and was a dufus so I left. The others in my crew gave theirs and went to work and thought I was being a little paranoid but I stand for what I believe is right. Wouldn't you know I didn't get 2 miles away before my cell phone rang and they said it was fine come back your DL is all the info they need.

Privacy is becoming a lost right.

Forgot something.......isn't one of the mandates on obamacare to have all of our personal data available nation wide or on an international basis?? Naturally, like the democrats who passes this law I didn't read the dang thing but remember hearing that was what they wanted.
Another thing that was either passed or was attempted by Hillary was to have our guns registered in an international database. There was a huge cry of foul by the NRA but I have lost track of how that went. I think it was some international treaty crapp she was pushing.

Obama CARE and ObamaCare websites request your SSN, yet this is AGAINST THE LAW. Hippa very specifically outlines that it is illegal to collect, and manage your SSN as a method of identification. I know this for a FACT. I work for a major insurance company, dealing with the law, and years ago, we spent millions and millions of dollars to remove SSN as a method if identification.

Obama Care doesn't even follow their OWN Federally mandated laws.
