    64 Cent Question? KY River

If one is in Frankfort and desires to fish for sauger in the Kentucky river..., where would they go to (bank fish) or launch a boat and motor to (where)? Number One Grandson is VERY INTERESTED.

    Thanks to all; Grandpa

Well to me sauger fishing = fishing at the locks, so...put in at the Steele Branch ramp off of US 127 - take US 127 North toward Owenton and follow the signs. After you launch, go upriver until you get below Lock 4.

If you're in that neighborhood, this is a good time of year to fish the mouth of Elkhorn Creek.

To my knowledge Lock 4 is not really known as a sauger destination but you can almost always get bit by something down there. There are some people who bank fish below Jim's Seafood at Lock 4 but it is EXTREMELY dangerous to get down there, especially if it's wet like it is. I would not do it.

Someone else might have knowledge about Lock 3 (Monterrey) and Lock 5 (Tyrone). You can get to Lock 5 by putting in at the public ramp on KY 420 near the intersection of KY 676 (E-W Connector). It's a little bit of a haul upriver.

Put in at Carollton....., head up to the lock there before the Ohio River. I have POUNDED them on spoons there tipped with a minner.

Be careful.....it is about 3-4 mile run or something like that.

    Later,

    Geo
