Yep wifi connection through your router at your house. Some have the 3G/4G option as well which is good if you don't have a router but that is using cell data so expect a monthly charge.

i don't have a Kindle but I suspect you buy your books through an amazon app. If you become a Prime member on amazon you have access to alot of free books and I'm sure there are other free sites for books out there.

im a Prime member and have access to alot of movies and free shipping on anything I order from them that is Prime eligible.

My daughter has a Kindle Fire. She LOVES it...........It does require wifi for most functions. If you don't have a wireless router though, you can use a wifi hotspot type phone, as long as you don't go crazy with videos and stuff. My daughter also has her own VERIZON plan and when she's not close a free hot spot, she turns on her phone hot spot and that works fine. She has a 2gb plan.......and that seems to be adequate.

    Later,
