i use the bass pro tourney special, 5' 10" med heavy and fast action rod with a small spinning reel wrapped up with 50lb braid for search rod. you can cast all day long

I use all GLoomis IMX Med-Heavy Fast Action 7' but any bass rod you like in Medium heavy should work 10-17 lb range. I generally use 30lb braid with a 20 to 25lb fluorocarbon leader. On live bait rods IMO is too thick but when casting to them you can get away with heavier leader line. I repeatedly get broken off with 17lb leader on a bass rod, where as 20lb minimal and 25 very rarely.
