Anyone here use range finders? If so what do you think of the model you have.

I've played courses that had them mounted in the cart and they seemed to be pretty spot on, but not sure what brand they were. On a cooler note, my friend downloaded an app to his phone that gave you the distance to the front of the green using gps, beats the heck out of huntin and peckin lookin for a sprinkler head with yardage on it or trying to use the cart path yardage when playing from the deep stuff on the other side of the fairway
Yes. They are well worth the money if you play a lot of golf. Just get one that will adjust to the slope. I play golf quite a bit.......I typically fish Feb.- June and play golf all summer until about October than I hit the lake again.
I know what you mean when I played golf there were times I would play three or four holes and never see the cart path.I've played courses that had them mounted in the cart and they seemed to be pretty spot on, but not sure what brand they were. On a cooler note, my friend downloaded an app to his phone that gave you the distance to the front of the green using gps, beats the heck out of huntin and peckin lookin for a sprinkler head with yardage on it or trying to use the cart path yardage when playing from the deep stuff on the other side of the fairway
As long as the cart path was to the right of the fairway i was usually pretty close, but put it on the left and id never see it. My eyesight was pretty good but i never could locate the sprinkler heads in the trees, but i got pretty good at hittin a 4 iron punch shot
Hahaha I understand but I been doing both! In the summer I was trying to play after work once a week (9 holes) at The Brook in Versailles and was fishing 1-2 times a week after work or on weekends. When there is a will there is a way!!!
As I learn the game I can see the importance of distances to the flag, bunkers, greens and spots to lay up so you can hit that comfortable wedge shot. We use the poles, sprinkler heads and marked steel plates but I can see a range finder being quicker to determine distances. Especially on courses I may not be familiar with (that's most of them!) I was just wanting to get on the green before and putting from wherever it landed. More recently I have been playing golf with a guy from work who really has a good mental approach to the game, things like where my ball should be on the green as opposed to what I was doing and just feeling good about being on the green.
You guys who have golfed more know about what a more desirable putt is and what isn't and I love that uphill putt more than a downhill any day! I really love the game I just wish I would have started when I was a kid not when I was 49.
I plan on treating myself to a Christmas gift and getting one. Bushnell looks like the direction I'm going but was hoping to get some personal experience reviews from folks before I get one.
I use GolfLogix app on iPhone...I paid $4.99 for it I believe. It's very accurate and easy to use...can see just about anything you want to know.
The only thing I don't like about it is that I'm constantly looking at my phone, which means I see missed calls, voicemails, and text messages...which may not help the mental aspect of your game IMO. Golf is pretty mental and when crap gets in your head and you can't concentrate, forget it.
Having said that, a simple Sky Caddie that gives distance to greens, hazards, and lay up spots works fine. Nothing wrong with a simple Bushnell range finder either.
Golf? Sorry, I don't go in for sissy sports, I'm a fly fisherman! Lol
