Just a Story Sometimes True

I sit here looking across the frozen span of ice until my eyes stop at lake’s edge lined with pine and spruce trees. Its here my life took real meaning just a few short years ago. It is here winters became fun with adventure. My dad would pull the ice hut onto the lake and place it where past “holes” were found productive. If one spot was unproductive, we would move to another. Being I am only eight years old, I have a lot to learn about fishing and what it takes to be successful. My dad is very good at fishing, and I take note at what he has to say and how he does things. It is fun to get the hut setup for the weekend. To auger the holes, set our rods, sit back and watch the wind blow the snow horizontally across the lake. The homemade soup and hot chocolate heated on the propane stove could not be better. Sometimes, we would have to sit the soup down to reach for our bent rods, and it would be awhile before the soup was heated again. Once we got home, those winter crappie and perch were sure good at the dinner table.

The best part however is just being with my dad. I love it when we can get away and spend time with each other. He is a carpenter by trade with a big heart. My mother is one of a kind as well. She is the best. Always sacrificing to see I have everything I need. I don’t get all I want, but they see to it I get what I need. They will never know how much I appreciate the love and things they do for me. It is good to have a warm bed, good food and someone I can ask questions. For you see I am adopted. My real mother died at birth and my father is in jail so children’s services placed me a foster home. Things didn’t go well, and after three foster homes, my adopted dad and mother took a chance with me. Now you see why my time sitting here in this old ice hut means so much. I have the most amazing life ever.

Maybe you should consider adopting. Adoption is not for everyone, but if you look around, you may find the right fit. Remember the Bible has a lot to say about adoption. Mordecai adopted an orphan he named Esther, as his own child. He loved her, raised her carefully, and she was a good and obedient daughter even into adulthood.
