I haven't done it in quite a few years, but back when I didn't have a boat & fished T-ville from the bank ... on some days in Dec, Jan & Feb, I did catch them casting a tube jig over large blowdown trees that stuck out into deep water. Sometimes I'd catch them suspended over the deeper end of the tree, but on some occasions I did catch some right next to the bank & close to the trunk in no more than 5ft of water.
