Im sure some basic local knowledge from a bait shop can get you pointed in the right direction. The thing I always liked about west lake is there are so many nice areas for the bass to spawn and if you know the lake you can find acres of perfect grass and weeds to float around in and just search for those pre spawn bass up there.
I know you have to upgrade a few rods to gorilla tackle so you don't get abused because a 5-10lb bass in the weeds or pads will hurt your feelings down there! I look at my Florida tackle boxes once in awhile and think man those hooks and sinkers are huge!!! Fact is though you learn to upgrade your stuff when your fishing in that State.
Man you have so many choices of lakes. Harris Chain, Butler Chain, Kissimmee Chain, Clermont Chain, big "O", istokpoga and the St. John river.... and many other small chains of lakes to fish in central Florida. Hopefully your buddy has some info to get you into lake that's hot so you can start off catching fish!
Red shad, tequilla shad have always been my favorite colors for worms and craws down there. I'll text a few buddies to see if they have any ideas of what chain is hot right now.
Your a seasoned fisherman and having a buddy down there plus picking up some info from reports, seeing weather patterns when your there and just being in a bass haven you guys are gonna have a blast. The only thing that will give those Florida Bass lock jaw is a cold front. They don't do well with those..hahahaha.
