    Charlie Strong

Well here we go again. Now is this story 100% true....well nobody knows yet. I believe that it is and I am very disgusted with Strong for the way he handled it. Now if he talks with Jurich first I am fine with it but this constant sneaking around junk done by coaches every year makes me wanna puke. He's already the 7th highest payed coach in NCAAF and he does this. Texas is ruining coaching careers at an alarming rate over the last decade or longer in my opinion.

Oh well it is what it is if it is true he's just another Bobby P and where is he coaching? How about John L Smith isn't he a DC at a High school somewhere. Strong is about to make a really BIG mistake.

I haven't seen anything on this but feel your pain. So is he like one of the few coaches on the short list or is he the coach they want??

My pain was years ago....Watching the gators having a stacked coaching staff and then it gets gutted and the program hasn't been the same. Makes me admire the head coaches that stay with a program. I know it's a business but when you get a good one that turns a program or restores it to prominence and they bolt for more money it pisses me off.

I dont have the stats but when I think of longevity in sports these come to mind......FSU football- Bobby Bowden, Indiana Basketball-Bobby knight, Penn State football- Joe P. And there are many others but these guys are tied to these schools.

The worst pain I have seen.....when I moved here ( January 1996) folks loved Pitino. He was gods gift to UK and then he left! As you know the rest is history!

edit--just read the Charloe Strong article and I think he would fit in there very well. The guy is a leader and young men listen when he speaks. He would be a big change from Mack since Mack is how old???
The article mentioned he would/could be a better fit at Florida and that's what I felt when all that took place with Urban leaving. Why didn't Charlie get that job? Oh well that's history.

Reports are that he met with their people for a job interview. The University of Texas did not ask permission to speak with Charlie which is the proper way to do this and Charlie said nothing to Tom Jurich or Ramsey, typical snake in the grass stuff.

Right now Louisville has made no official statement and Strong hasn't come out saying it isn't true which tells me it probably is. First off, other than money. WHY do you want to leave here for Texas? Second.............Do it the right way if you do. He has always seemed stand up to me but now I am really starting to question him bigtime.

Charlie is a horrible fit at Texas. He hates the media and social obligations, all he wants to do is coach football and that is not an option at texas. Being the UT football coach is ike being basketball coach at UK times 10!

If this was the Florida job, I expect he would be gone, but UT is definitely not the place for him IMO.

Also Don, you left off a hall-of-fame coach off your list above.....how about Denny Crum, 34 years as head coach of the Louisville Cardinals!

It would be hard not to at least give a look at what many consider the #1 College Football coaching job if they came calling. I'm not sure I agree that it's the #1 job recently, but a lot of folks do. Football is King in Texas.

Is this one of those "I want to coach your team" interviews, or one of those "I want to talk to you about coaching your team so that I'll get more money back at home" interviews?

    Time will tell.

It's the new world order of college and pro sports. These big program coaching changes are never gonna be done "the right way". People keep claiming Texas football head coach is one of the most desirable positions in the land. Maybe I don't get all the behind the scenes stuff but it doesn't seem all that great. Maybe it's because I'm satisfied with a somewhat simple life - what could I find in Austin that can't be found in Louisville besides better looking women? Me and Charlie are both married so that ain't gonna do nothin' but cause trouble. Culturally more "sophisticated"? Who has time to experience that when you're coaching and recruiting and making public appearances 26 hours a day? When he gets a vacation he's getting the "H out of dodge" whether it be Texas or Louisville to some place like Hawaii or Bermuda. Texas is a hotbed of recruiting, I guess he can save on gas and plane tickets to Florida on that one......

    I know, right?

It's like the difference between "rich" and "Oprah rich"....they aint missing any meals either way.

Look at a guy like Calipari or Pitino. There's a point where you aren't in it for the money anymore. Those needs are pretty much "met" any way you scramble the egg.

UT isnt the place for Charlie. One bigggg thing nobody has mentioned, will these schools hire Hurtt with him? I dont think so. Charlie is best fit where hes at. I dont think hed leave for Florida, they passed him over one or two too many times. Another question, and im not sure about this one. Do schools have to interview a minority like NFL teams do. If so, that could be the reason for UTs "interest" in Strong. Whether we like it or not, racism is still alive today, and the deeper in the south you go, the worse it gets and that could be another reason he isnt a fit regardless of how good of a coach he is
