If the meat doesn't have freezer burn it is still good and I wouldn't be afraid to eat it. While it is thawing, hold it close to your nose and smell it and you can tell if it's good. When my mom died she had 2 freezers of food, one for veggies and one for meats. Everything was well covered and was 2 years old. Every package of food tasted fresh like it had just been frozen. She had a box of MREs that she was given when Hurricane Katrina hit nearby but I don't like that type of food so I tossed it out.
