    Bunk Board Question

The carpet on my trailer bunk boards is all but worn off. The trailer is 15 years old and carrys a 17.5 ft Lowes Stinger aluminum bass boat. I have replaced bunk boards before when I had a Bass Tracker, but could never get the carpet really tight. I have been looking at trailler pads and trailer Glyde Sliks in the Bass Pro catalog. Has anyone used either before? Can they be applier to my existing bunk boards thereby eliminating the need to purchase new boards and recarpet. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

    Bunk Boards

I would stay away from any type of roller type bunks. Seen to many boats setting on ramps, where they unload them self's. I just replace mine every few years with treated 2x4s and wrap with carpet and make sure that the carpet don't go all the around the 2x4. This will let the wood dry. I staple It down and then go back with roofing nails to make sure it stays. Either make them up and take them with you the next time you go to the lake or river with new screws or lower your front jack all the way down and block up the back of the boat and raise the front jack all the way back up. This works on my Lowe.

    Hope this helps.

It's pretty easy to make your own bunks. I like to use 3M spray adhesive first to stick the carpet to the boards (so it won't move or come loose), then flip them over and staple the carpet edges to the bottom of the board. Doesn't take too long and is much cheaper than other options I've seen. By the way, I had looked at buying "marine" carpet online, but ended up going to Home Depot where they keep a variety of indoor/outdoor carpets on a roll to cut for you. I found high quality indoor/outdoor carpet for much less than what I could've bought it from a boat dealer or online and the finished bunks look great and have held up fine.
