Anyone know of a good ultralight combo that's cheap? Cabelas has one but half of the reviews say they broke onone of the first uses. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, drew

I don't own one so I can't say first hand, but I have read some good things about B&M rods and I have been considering ordering a couple myself. Their prices look very reasonable.
Here is a link to their ultra lights

Here is a spinning reel they sell that goes with their ultra lights

I've got a couple Abu garcia ultralight combos that are fairly cheap. I've had mine for a pretty good while and have no trouble out of them. Just clean them up every once in awhile and they'll last forever. You can find the combos at Walmart or online. Sorry I can't remember the price off the top of my head
kingfisher, when you say reasonable what do you mean?
good and cheap = oxymoron

I own one of the Shakespeare's as well. It's a little cheaper but still reliable. I just like the Abu garcia b.c how smooth it feels. Just my preference though.
I already own a cardinal and use it for Floyd's fork smallmouth. Never had any problems with mine. I'm looking more for a rod reel combo to use for either standing on a bank using a wax worm and a bobber or sitting in a boat crappie fishing.http://www.abugarcia.com/products/re...l/cardinal-stx

I have a Shimano 2500 w/Quickfire that I bought at a yard sale in 1986 for five bucks. It outlasted several rods. The last being a Berkley Lightnin' Rod 5' UL. The top blank came shooting out after a 30" Northern shredded my line at the boat, and I then frustratingly tried to whip him in his dumbass face!!! Serves me right I suppose..... Its at the bottom of Opasatika Lake in Northern Ontario.
That reel is now on a Medium 6.5' that I use for bass in the back yard pond. If it gets a lil noisy, I just dunk it in the water!!!! Shimano's older reels last and last and last, and the Lightnin Rods at about 30$ are hard to beat, and the two piece are great for trekking through trails.
Haha I like that sweetwater. I might use those lines from time to time if ya don't mind 😉
