Any of you folks ever had rotator cuff surgery? How long did it take to recuperate? Been putting it off, but its got to be done. Also carpal tunnel repair both on my right arm. So after 2/20/ 14 going to be incapable of using the right arm for awhile.
good luck to you, wishing you the best.
Get it done.
I was down 8 weeks after having it done. Mine was one laproscipically , which allowed for much quicker healing.
When I say down, I mean down for fishing, or paddling, but I was able to go to work the next week and after a month of rehab, I was fine.
A few years ago, I had micro tears in the other shoulder, and simply took 5 months off from paddling and fishing and that really helped.
The carpal may be tougher to recover from .

This began in early October. I've hurt it more since then. The easiest and cheaper solution I'd have chosen, was an ortho pedic sling, and a moderate pain killer. But I'm not an MD.Considering the cost benefit against the age factor. my solution makes more sense.Of corse the cost will help several folks in the medical field to enjoy a few extra rounds of golf.
Thanks for the sentiment geo.
I had surgery in December, it is a very painful recovery. The only place i could slept was in a recliner. But things are looking up the doctor said I could start fishing, but I could only reel with my left shoulder and had to cast with my right.you are looking at least 6-8 weeks in a sling.
Good luck
The cost is an issue, but if you're having trouble elevating it, you will have trouble until you completely immobilize it and let the tears heal, OR get it fixed. This began in early October. The micro tears, will fix themselves over time, but you have to sling it and not move the shoulder up ( lifting motion), or above flat. Think chicken wing straight out. If you can do that forever
then it will heal itself over a 5 month period.
Personally, if I had reasonable insurance ( not a 12,000 HSA) where I'm responsible for the first 12k, I would have had my second shoulder surgically repaired. I still might, but for now, it seems to be ok.

I feel your pain and hope all goes well man.
As far as the question.....No but i have been to the doc about this last year. I tore something in my shoulder a few years ago while doing silly gymnastic moves on parallel bars and rings....but it healed. Last year i re-injured it during a mud run and it hurt like crazy. Lexington Clinic Sports Medicine was recommended so I went and after the consult I had the MRI. Slight tear in the RT and in the labrum was what they found....kinda a good news bad news deal for me. If I can tolerate it and change my life style things will get better but not perfect with my shoulder. Surgery was not a good option since neither tear was a complete tear and trying to repair something that isnt totally busted is crazy according to my shoulder doctor.
So I stopped running the mud runs, stopped lifting heavy weight in the gym, went to physical therapy for a few months and learned how to stretch and strengthen my shoulder and neck.
The other thing is I had to switch to left handed bait casting reels and spinning reels more while fishing and that started around July of last year. At first it was odd but now I love using my left hand for reeling and my right arm is used for the hook set. Prior to that if i set the hook with my left arm and reeled with my right it about took me to my knees! The pain in my shoulder and neck was sharp and left that area hot with pain for hours.
I have talked to others about that surgery and they said it takes a very long time to get the mobility back and that's with a good effort at physical therapy. My doc said if I did the surgery I'm out a full year on my fun activities that requires me to use my shoulder like I need.
I can say this...my shoulder is feeling very good as long as I don't get stupid and lift or push anything heavy. I have learned that age will catch up with you and injuries take longer to heal. I'm hardheaded and between my (runners knee) knee and shoulder hurting i finally listened to my body.
Wish you the best on this!
