    Randy Howell

    After watching the Bassmaster Classic last evening on ESPN I came away more than impressed with this guy. Not just from a being a great fisherman but an even better human being. What an absolute home run to have this guy representing our beloved sport on national television. Humble in every way the work he does for the kids group he supports in Alabama. His family, kids the way he took time to sit on the deck and talk with Zona and Tommy I can go on and on.

    Totally impressed with this man through and though. Also on the fishing that was a Bass spanking on those two rocks walls and points that I Have not witnessed well.............Ever, that was flippin EPIC!

    Man you said it. He sure shined as a human being with all he said and does for his charity. The fishing was off the charts amazing!!!!
    Soap box time.....why is it that we get these humble well spoken athletes in fishing (most of them) but other sports we get thugs and punks?? Must be the difference in upbringing and surrounding family and friends.

    Anyway, I'm proud to say I'm a bass fisherman and appreciate men like Randy. I loved the fact he just kept bringing his charity into the obligation as much as possible and when he was tearing up I felt myself doing the same.....I'm a softie when it comes to that stuff.

    God was given a lot of air time with Randy and that's so refreshing.....so nice to see God and a humble man showing his love for his savior. To be honest it made me see how selfish I am......

    I met him 10-12 years ago and he is that way in person. Did not get to talk to him for long but a great guy, glade he won.

    Just spot on Don this is exactly what I was trying to say. Good stuff for sure...........Even folks that don't like fishing should watch and see how a real winner is suppose to act and live his life.

    That bridge is the hwy 431 bridge over Spring Creek and ironically it is right near Chris Lane's Marina!

    This was the wildest Classic I have been to with regards to spectator boats and fans in general. If you have not been to Guntersville, there are bridges--or as they call them--causeways all over the lake with ample parking for people to pull of and fish from shore. These areas were loaded with fans each day plus there were more specatator boats on the water then I have seen. On day 2 Randall Tharp had nearly 100 boats following him and then even followed him as he was towed to the ramp to get his lower unit replaced.

    One of the newest forms of watching tournaments was out in full force at Guntersville.....remote control helicopters equipped with video cameras. Some anglers had two or three of them flying around at the same time.

    This says a lot about what kind of people Randy and his wife Robin are. Don Barone is great at writing about the people in the sport.

    Just an awesome article! The prayer from Oakley on that tattered piece of paper hit me hard like a stomach punch...again I got a little misty eyed. I really hope we hear more of the Howell family and I suspect Randy has alot more good things in store for him and his family.

    That article is OUTSTANDING...............
    With all the Obama slamming and all the bad in the world I get caught up in I find myself being able to come back to places and thoughts of what prompted this thread. Of Randy and his family his cute little boys hugging his neck and think about all the good I have and some of you. I need this more often now as these are the real important things of this life.

    This article got ole Dad here a little watery eyed.

    A lot of us are blessed more than we probably deserve...and a lot don't even realize it. My little girl makes my world go round. I thought I knew what life was all about, but didn't have a clue until she showed up! Now, all that really matters to me is that she's safe, she's happy, and she's raised to be a good person.

    Thank God for kids.
