Kentucky Afield had there spring call-in show and the question came up about what was up with Beaver Lake boat dock and that was there reply. They did say they were going to make repairs to the out buildings but never said they were going to open the dock back up.
How has "everyone bitching" about any HP idle only hurt the place? That hasn't even gone into effect yet, if it will even go at all. what is the difference between a motor over 9.9HP running wide open versus a 150hp idling??? will it cause more people to get on the water? maybe, but what is wrong with that? I don't see this as being a problem at all. Beaver is a small enough lake that I think there will be enough competition from other lakes as to not cause any crowding. I see no difference or problem with allowing any HP to idle, and 9.9hp to run wide open. The kayak guys and smaller boats shouldn't have any problem. This is coming from a guy who runs an 18' Ranger with a 150HP as well as a Hobie Kayak, I get both sides and see no issue.BTW fished the pond hoppers, it was tough conditions blue bird skies but big fish went over 6 and was released right next to the dock. There were some nice fish caught, most were in the weeds. Everyone was very courteous at the ramp and the dock and ramp are in good shape. If we can all act civil I think it will be a great year to fish beaver. The weeds aren't as bad as they have been the last couple of times I went, and the ramp is in excellent shape. I think everyone bitching about wanting it to be any HP idle only wake has really hurt the place, but groups like pond hoppers and the kayak fishing bunch are on the right path. They deserve their places. We were in a 14' boat with a 9.9 johnson, far from the fastest boat on the lake (Saw a guy trolling with a 25 right next to us) but we could get from one end of the lake to the other in less than 20 minutes what more do you need?
Beaver is a gem, we need to do what we can to preserve it. Shame you can't go rent a row boat right now, hope they resolve that. As close to frankfort as it is surely someone will step to the plate to make it right.
