I have ZERO tolerance for people drinking and driving. Drinking and driving (to me) is the deadliest combination on the roads. Growing up we some friends down the street who lost their child because a drunk driver lost control and ran into their yard and ran her over and kept driving. Many people have stories of how drinking and driving may have affected their family or lives and I would bet the drunks thought they were fine. Anyone ever try and reason with a drunk? It's maddening!!!!
I have friends who still drink and drive because they get away with it and some of them have been caught before!! Maybe the penalty for drunk driving isn't strong enough?? I also know that if you know the right people you can get some soft penalties and that infuriates me.
I'm not much of a drinker...maybe 1-2 beers a month and that's only if I attend a cookout or go play pool. I just don't desire it like I did as a young man. I totally understand people who can drink a beer or two and function as if they haven't had a beer because there are so many variables in how that alcohol effects them and it also depends on the alcohol content of the beer, but if you get caught pay the price. It's the price of breaking the law and I'm not a hard ass on laws but I am on drinking and driving.
I have learned that texting and driving is pretty bad as well. There was a time I would but now I don't because I have had close calls even though I thought I was fine doing it. It's actually nice to not deal with a phone while driving. I won't take calls 99% of the time as well. My SUV has Bluetooth so answering and talking are easy and hands free but it's nice to "be off the radar" and just listen to music while driving.
