I didn't either but I knew what alcohol was because of the picnics and other functions we attended with other military families. We would take a drink because we were boys and all the military dads would laugh at how we hated the taste....even back then it was a guy thing to see if we were man enough to enjoy a cold swig of beer.

I knew about pot when I was 15 and that's only because some older friends were messing with it. Started smoking it when I was 17 and did so for many years but those days are long gone. I still have friends who do and they are in their 50's...I don't know how they can function but they do.

Kids finding and selling drugs (including alcohol and prescription drugs) is sad but it's the world we live in now.

All of the dope smokers I grew up with. Friends, Family, professionals, etc, etc, are on the lower end of the ladder.

Those professionals are in DEAD end jobs. Sure they collect a check every week, but most of them, if not all are close to getting the ax. Some already have.

Friends......lots and lots are either unemployed or extremely under employed.

    Family.......most are unemployed.

Yep, this is what happens when your only goal in life is to get stoned, and think about a better life. Personally, I passed up that **** and got to the better life.

And to be clear.......I'm not talking about the recreational user. The person who smokes a doobie on vacation, or smokes a doobie with long lost friends. I'm talking about the guy who smokes it every day or every other day. Much like the alcoholic that cannot function without a couple shots a day.

And lets not kid ourselves. There are a crap ton of folks that are "dependent" on mary jane. The simply cannot function without it.....

Yep I watched a few guys and gals waste their life with that "I'm gonna party till the day I die attitude". I lived it for a year and a half after high school but something in me made me leave Orlando and go in the Military to get away (mainly my Dad and his life adventures/stories of seeing that the world is bigger than Orlando FL.) and experience things. It saved me from following the crowd and just working 9-5 jobs with no real career or skill in mind.
When I came back 4 years later my buddies were still living that life, still bitching about money, still bitching about getting a real job and still idle in life. I went to tech school and moved on...best move I ever made.

Since I retired in 93 I've probably had 4 tokes. I also have almost quit alcohol. Just living a boring existence.

I will step into this one. I know several of you claim to know stoners or should I say "professionals" that smoke dope that us sober people would never know. Well the simple fact is that us sober people DO KNOW and likely either you or your acquaintance are subpar in their profession.

I'm sorry, but if you are a pothead or know someone who is, I pity you or them. Dope will never be legal in Ky and now the stoned versus drunk driving facts are coming out. The seven mph joke ain't gonna cut it anymore.

I know we have discussed this before...If I remember correctly your ex law enforcement which would explain your incorrect elevated opinion of knowing so much about anyone who smokes pot. I can't group the recreational users into "stoners" and what makes a pothead anyway?

You know my stand...I think it should be legal because the ability of law enforcement to stop it is a joke and with more and more states or counties allowing it to be sold the writing is on the wall that it will be legal everywhere its just a matter of time. How many Billions has been spent to stop it? Has it worked? Simple answer is no it hasn't. Seems like a waste to me. Just legalize it and tax it. Everyone knows the best way to screw something up is get the gubment involved!

I'm reading between the lines here but if you assume I am a pothead or a recreational user your sadly mistaken. I can assure you....sadly mistaken.....

BTW what is the seven mph joke?

Agree. People are going to abuse a variety of substances in an effort to get high. You will never stop it. Only chance to actually slow it down or make people think twice is though education. An no, not that silly just say no crap that we heard in the early 80's. The billions that are spent every year on trying to stop drug trafficking would be better used on educating kids on the actual dangers of use and abuse of drugs.

On another note, what business does the government have telling consenting adults what they can and cannot put in their own body? If it has no affect on others, I don't really give a crap what someone wants to ingest. Now, you get on the road after shooting heroin or drinking 5 shots, I have a problem: you have the potential to harm someone other than you. If your actions have the potential to harm others, or you are giving the stuff to kids, then the law should be there to stop you.

Excellent and spot on post. There are now PROVEN studies and actual cases where people are living better lives with the use of medical marijuana. It has alot of good to offer and I recently saw a show where a young child was having hundreds of violent seizures per week. It was just terrible and now by ingesting small amounts of marijuana medically prescribed she is down to one to three seizures per week with some weeks having none at all. She has been able to attend school and live a semi normal life. Her parents are elated and it has been a God send.

We need to open our eyes to possibilities and explore this organic plant as it has many useful capabilities. Am I proposing laying on the couch all day smoking pot and eating Cheetos of course not but it is and can help many folks maybe God grew it for a reason......

    way back then

you could buy legally many pain killing drugs. Paragoric, codeine cough syrup, and forms of cocaine. Just sign the book. What isn't addictive? Gambling, food, alcohol, computer games. There will always be and were addictive things that needed "regulation, and the cure turned into another problem
