    Laurel river lake

Ok guys here is the deal.... Im in a kayak bass fishing tournament at laurel river lake on may 17th. I have never fished laurel before and am looking for some helpful hints to try and figure out this lake. My usual map study and online research is getting me no where fast. The only real info i can find is that laurel is hard to fish and that the people that have figured it out are not willing to devulge thier knowledge. Im currently planning to put in at grove marina and fish that area as hard as i can. Does this area hold good numbers of fish or are there better areas that i should be trying? The tournament is for all black bass but i would really like to get on some smallmouth. Any advive would be great. thanks in advance!

I feel our pain about this lakes info

I too tried finding info on this lake and its very limited. I have only been there one time fun fishing I was pounding the bank grubs ,tubes swim baits spinner baits very little success , gave up tryed for trout. Started trolling near the shore with rooster tails smoking a cigar just relaxing, bam caught a 6lb walleye, soon a 5 pound flat head, then a 6lb small mouth, then a 3 1/2lb smallie, then seveal other small bass. Called it a day with the walleye for the fryer. Cam out early the next day started casting along the shore line and caught numbers not size but best 5 would have gone 12lbs, all on rooster tails silver /silve or a firetiger I just kept alternating . This was in June. Not you typical bass fishing but it was fun. I launched out of groove and fished straight across and towards the dam. here are a couple of links this one seems to have more up to date information.ood luck

    laurel lake

If it were me and I was fishing out of a yak I would either put in at Holleybay or at Marshes Branch. May 17th the largemouth will be spawning and both ramps have near by standing timber pockets that largemouth spawn in. As far a smallmouth, you can hit any point with a top water plug in these areas early and have a chance at a real good size smally. Good luck.

there are a lot of fishing tournaments on Laurel and the fish are weighed and released at the grove boat ramp, some of the best bass I've seen on Laurel, were in the cove to the left of the grove boat ramp. Laurel is a tough place to fish, if you don't mind using live bait, you will catch more fish on Laurel. I fished there last Friday night until 1:30 am no shad coming up, lake was as slick as glass and 63 degree temps. not a single hit. good luck to you.
