    Elkhorn creek smallmouth

Got a chance to go down to Elkhorn n catch some smallmouth today. Caught several nice ones and a lot of small ones. Had a really good afternoon. Caught em on pop R 's, spinnerbaits n flukes.

Nice fish. Looks like you were walking the bank. What part of Elkhorn were you on? I usually fishs the Georgetown pools that are dammed but the largest sm are around 14-15 inches that I catch there. After the forks tends to be where they are bigger

I was in the Peaks Mill area. Yeah we had a lot of fun, although i lost one that we both knew was over 3 lbs easy, but at least i got to see it. Its been a really good spring for me so far on elkhorn, several smallmouth in the 15 to 18 inch range. Actually saw a couple nice ones gaurding fry, they would swirl at baits n bump them but would never open mouth to eat it, just trying to scare it away i guess.

just drove over Elkhorn at peaks mill on a beer run. It is brown and rolling. Will be at least a week with no more rain before it is fishable again.

I really doubt that the masses are coming because the area after the forks has always been known for smallmouth and there are only a couple of parking spots in peaks mill. Anyones best bet would be to rent a canoe at still waters and paddle/drag up stream and fish the pools on the ways then float back downstream and fish the same pools coming back. Steve

I waded down there and wading under that bridge is a challenge gets about up to my neck but on a chatter bait with no skirt and a paddle tail minnow i slapped a 4 lb smally down there years ago its a decent channel cat spot also and frog gigging down there but last time i waded last summer i went down the riffle and to the left were its super shallow caught a 2 ft gar by hand lol but all in all i havent seen to many decent ones around except right at the bridge

I was taught years ago about the horrors of internet blabbing on the creeks. They are very fragile and can be trashed and bashed in short order its happened before and goes on more than you know. Ask any of the hard core creek guys on here about what happens when somebody starts giving EXACT locations on the creek fishing.

People throw trash every where and get access spots shut down. They hook every fish they catch on a stringer and take them home regardless of size. Ask around on here, maybe a few ''OTHERS'' on here may chime in.

Protect the creeks and don't talk about them too much and you'll be happy, tell where to go and you will be sorry, trust me...These aren't like big lakes totally different animal all together.
