Thanksgiving Weekend........Talk me out of it.....

    OK,

For 15 years or so, I've been going to Dale Hollow Thanksgiving Day Weekend, to start my Smallie Fall / Winter Fishing.

I'm seriously thinking of going to KY Lake instead. Fishing is pretty GOOD at Dale Hollow that weekend, but I'm hearing that I miss out on some serious opportunity for some pretty good topwater action.

    What do you guys think?

I'm actually thinking of Adding a couple extra trip to KY lake, starting with Thanksgiving and maybe the weekend of the Billy.......Like I said, I'm not completely sure just yet, but I want to at least give it a serious thought.

    Later,

    Geo

Well you have to look at it this way it all depends on the weather for that time of year for a topwater bite so in turn are you willing to go and not catch fish since ky is shallower than dale hollow a front could lock the fish up tighter on ky or barkley more so than on dale ive never fished either of them but im a guy who fishes alot of different places and i usually stick to what i knoe if i got a place were i can catch consistant numbers and a few big ones ima keep going to that area vs trying to figure out what is going on somewere else

    Dale hollow

It would be really hard for me to pass up dale hollow that time of the year. The smallmouths are usually on fire and I just enjoy catching them more than largemouth. But then again it's ky lake.... Me personally I couldn't break that 15 year tradition. You have a tough descion ahead of you sir. Btw checked out your website! I'll give it a thumbs up

I went to Dale thanksgiving weekend around 10 or so years ago. Swear on my life me and my buddy caught one total fish for 3 days! I've been a few other times and done well. Was there one spring weekend with at least a half inch of snow in the boat and had my best day ever. I haven't been in a couple years. It's very hit or miss lake for me. Now Barkley, I believe I could catch em good thanksgiving weekend somewhere on the lake. I'd try Barkley/Kentucky.

We typically go to dale that same time, but fishing was always horrible for us, and we had several boats in our group. It got so bad we pushed the trip back to January for float n fly fishing. Kentucky Lake has my vote

    other options

Geo, have you look into Pickwick and Wilson lake, around thanksgiving time frame on both lakes produces large brown fish, with the option of largemouths if we have a late fall. With the numbers of smallies on the decline on Ky lake this could be option. Food for thought!!!!!

KY Lake has a really healthy population of nice smallmouth too. I would go to KY Lake and get the best of both worlds!

Who needs Dale for smallmouth. A few thanksgivings back after doing the leaves I went out the last hour or two before dark on Barkley and had 10 smallies that would keep with the best five going somewhere in the neighborhood of 20#. Had a five pound LM trash fish to boot. Dead of winter - Dale. Late fall, early spring and everything in between - the big lakes!!!
