Well that explains why it's not his fault huh?? I guess all the years it was a total lock on being a republican congress too huh?? You know that answer.

Didn't he promise to cut the national debt in half at the end of his first term? How much has he added??? And an FYI.... Adding is opposite of reducing/cutting.

It looks as if he will be the first to hand over a debt of who knows......20 trillion???? Again not a reduction like he promised....

I am the first to say I don't know everything and I decided to look the national debt up and it's scary. I decided to look up what some say may help cut the debt down and I was amazed at what I read. The areas I always considered to be a major area of waste really doesn't amount to much at all in the scheme of things. Foreign Aid..IMO was a place to reduce the national debt but man it's a small contributor. Yes it can be reduced but that's only a start. I was really surprised at the amount of money that the gubment owes itself....they have robbed programs like social security and Medicare and this is a huge problem because as the country ages more and more money is needed from those programs that have been gutted by our elected officials.

It sure doesn't help giving money to illegals in forms of free healthcare or financial aid and the welfare program is riddled with waste and corruption.

It's scary and it may be a huge clue into why both parties talk about things but are afraid to actually do anything in fear of cutting its own throat.

I don't believe any candidate has the fortitude to do what it takes to attain a sustainable balanced budget because it might be political suicide for him/her and their respective party... I don't believe the budget can be balanced by cutting cost only and our country remain the country we have today.... Nobody wants to raise taxes because it cost votes to do so but I don't believe there is another answer and yes, there doesn't seem to be enough allowances contained in the part of the budget that we want to blame for our budget woes to make a big difference.

There was a very simple plan floated a few years ago that would balance the budget in 10 years.

1). Freeze all growth in every single budgeted item. Every budget item has a 3-5% COLA adjustment included in the overall cost. FREEZE that.....

2). Cut EVERY budget item by 1% a year for 10 years.

AT the end of 10 years, you will have ZERO deficit, and will be paying about 500 billion /year on the debt.

This is close to what I'm talking about:
