    Grandson Fishing

I plan to take my grandson fishing in the Louisville area next weekend. He would enjoy catching bluegill as he is only 7. I will be fishing from my 18.5 Wareagle with 90 hp Honda and will need a decent launch even if it is a trolling motor only lake. Earlier in the summer we went to Guist but it was a windy day and we caught very few. I suspect we will use crickets, worms and some jigs with crappie nuggets. What are you suggestions for a place that will entertain a youngster with some bluegills or even crappie? I don't mind traveling an hour or so if necessary. He is very patient and persistent so he will give it a good effort. Thanks,,,,,nothing like taking your grandson fishing.

I'd take him to Taylorsville Lake .... or possibly Cedar Creek Lake. By next weekend the weather should have stabilized & the fish should be starting to come shallower. Central KY lake temps seem to be holding right around 75deg, right now ... but should drop some with the upcoming cooler weather.

Any particular part of Taylorsville? I've never fished there as I'm in western KY. Also, where is Cedar Creek in relation to Louisville. I've heard of it but never been there. Thanks for your help.

Giving my two cents I was at taylorsville on Monday and found several crappie and bluegill back in creeks (will pm you my spot I'd suggest considering I'll be bass fishing the rest of my trips at taylorsville.)

Cedar Creek is on Hwy 150 between Stanford & Crab Orchard Ky. That's Southwest of Louisville & about a 2hr drive from downtown Louisville.

Taylorsville ... is basically between Louisville & Cedar Creek. It's about 45min-1hr drive from Louisville, depending on which route you take.

I'd use Google Maps to show you directions.

All the ramps on either of these lakes will be fine for your boat. On Cedar Cr. I prefer the ramp at the dam (150 goes over the dam) ... on T-ville, I prefer the ramp at Settler's Trace Marina. Those ramps will put you in the main lake area of either lake.

Mouth of creeks, deep points, main lake blowdowns ... all the normal places should put you on fish. I'd use my electronics to determine whether the fish are still deep, or if they've come up shallower from the water temp change.
