Green River Lake anybody been for bass, thnx

Theyre going to draw it 4ft farther this year than normal to do maintenance on their water tower. Should show some insteresting things

Apparently they going below the level of 668. I went by Holmes Bend ramp tonight before I came home and noticed the water was lower than years past. I just looked on the COE site and they have it listed as 666.20 with the main gate still on 1.20 and it fell .97 in the last 24 hours. It should be another foot lower by Sunday morning. If they are going to the old winter pool of 664 they should be there by Monday...However mother nature will always out trump the COE. Next weeks forecast calls for rain about every day. If we get enough it will rise.

Does anybody know how long they plan on holding it lower than normal to do maintenance on the water tower?

Theyll hold it there until next spring like they always do according to the corp. i was out there fishing the black friday tourny yesterday and you can already see the tops of some brush piles you couldnt see in the past. Once they get it down im gonna get out and ride around looking for a day

"The lower winter pool (historical 664 pool) is to facilitate maintenance work in the Control Tower. It is only scheduled for this winter and the lake will return to 668 when the work is complete, weather permitting." If anyone has not looked at their Facebook page it would be worth the effort to check it out. They post outflow rates, gate settings and surface temp most everyday along with answering questions from posters.

Thanks for the information...at 664 it will make things interesting running some areas. It was after dark when I drove by the lake last night. The 1st thing I noticed other than the lower water level was the condition of Holmes Bend boat ramp. At 664 there will only be one lane to unload and it is in the middle. There is a lot of sand, dirt and silt that has washed in on both sides of the ramp. My guess would be at 668 when there was wave action it pushed the sand from the beach onto the ramp. Then "typically" in the winter there is little loading and unloading. What few boats that used the uncrowded ramp would power load using the center of the ramp keeping it "blown" clean...that's just my theory. If they hold it at 664 all winter it would be a good time for the COE to bring in a bobcat or a bucket loader and clean the ramp. It's still usable but there is a ton of dirt on it.

As for fishing the lake I suppose I will have to adjust more on the areas I fish rather than adjusting how I fish. I remember fishing the old level of 664 pre 2002 ish. I don't recall doing anything different than what I was doing at 668. I do however know that navigation in some areas was an issue at 664. There will be places at 664 that I will have an Extremely Long idle to reach the area I want to fish. I would run to the area on pad at 668. I do not fish Green much in the winter but starting late February and early March I start fishing more often and the 664 level is a thorn in my side late winter and early spring.

"Typically" the COE will hold water after March 15. Regardless of the level 664 or 668 mother-nature has control of how soon it will rise not the COE. I have seen abnormally dry times in late March and the lake was very slow to rise. If the rain is anything like last winter/early spring it will be like a Yo YO. If you remember from December to March the lake hit summer pool 2-3 times. Every time they pulled it back down another big rain would come and put it back up. I suppose the lake was doing what it was intended to do "flood control" Most people tend to forget that the number one reason of the lake is Flood Control for the down stream low lying areas. Fishing, boating and recreation always take a back seat to flood control. I know it stinks during the spawn when they pull water off beds rendering them useless but that is just the way it is.

Years ago I used to go out and build brush piles every winter. In the last few years I have done a few but not as many as in the past. With the level at 664 I might be a little more active in building brush piles this winter.

Be safe...main lake navigation is not an issue as long as you use some common sense. If you get very far off the channel or try to run up the Robinson arm or the main river be very careful.
