I would not hesitate to go fishing at GRL if I wanted to. The tournaments are usually done by 3pm and after that time there should be very little boat traffic to contend with. Just a word of caution though, one of the tournaments is a yak tournament. I am sure those guys and gals in the yaks would appreciate everyone being especially watchful when running and to exercise some extra caution and courtesy when around them.

There has been a few occasions in the past the we have been running full-bore in the area of Camp Kentahten on GRL and at a distance that is a little too close for comfort I will notice kids in yaks out on the lake. I guess at higher running speeds we all tend to get tunnel vision and not notice the yaks because we are concentrating so much on looking out for other boats.

We will be out there tomorrow enjoying a nice and quite day on the lake. If your go way back in some of the smaller feeder creeks and throw a white spinnerbait you will have a good shot at hanging into a musky at this time of the year. Btw, the COE opened up the dam gates today. Tight lines.

According to this : http://lrl-apps.lrl.usace.army.mil/w...plots/grr.html .... it doesn't appear like they are. Looks like they have it back down to Summer Pool. Normal Winter drawdown starts in Nov and level should be at Winter Pool by Dec. But, according to the chart history, they yanked the bottom out of it, last year.

Theyre going to draw it 4ft farther this year than normal to do maintenance on their water tower. Should show some insteresting things

There will be a few humps that could be just under the water, but most anybody with a gps should be able to avoid em. Just hope people use common sense and follow the channel, but there could be a few junked lower units this winter, especially people attempting to get in the creeks

If my memory is correct the winter pool level of 668 started somewhere around 2002. Before they changed the winter pool level to 668 it was 664. So if they draw 4 more feet it will not be any lower than the original pool level...pulling 4 more feet does make the lake harder to navigate in several areas. It also makes some places impossible to reach. If they do pull 4 more feet it will be a good time to work on some brush piles.

In 1998 i was 15, so itll be new for me to see it. I think if they pull it any further than 664 it would be very very difficult to navigate. If you stay down around the dam it wont be as rough as if you head towards the river or robinson

My hubby grew up fishing GRL almost every day and he said you are correct. Winter pool used to be 664 but was changed to 668 in the early 2000's. He said if they draw it down to 664 this year there would be places that are safer at the lower level and other places that are dangerous at 664 that was not at 668. He said for you GRL veterans just be careful in the areas that are 15' deep or less in the summer you will be fine.

Apparently they going below the level of 668. I went by Holmes Bend ramp tonight before I came home and noticed the water was lower than years past. I just looked on the COE site and they have it listed as 666.20 with the main gate still on 1.20 and it fell .97 in the last 24 hours. It should be another foot lower by Sunday morning. If they are going to the old winter pool of 664 they should be there by Monday...However mother nature will always out trump the COE. Next weeks forecast calls for rain about every day. If we get enough it will rise.

Theyll hold it there until next spring like they always do according to the corp. i was out there fishing the black friday tourny yesterday and you can already see the tops of some brush piles you couldnt see in the past. Once they get it down im gonna get out and ride around looking for a day
