Guns used by private citizens prevent crimes 2.5 million times each year in the United States. You can site a particular occurrence and profess it as proof and if a thug is killed in a situation it surely does "deter" that individual... Could you please explain why gun ownership in the US is 80 or 90 guns per 100 person but we don't seem to have the most crime free nation on the planet?... Doesn't quite seem to add up... According to you all we need to do is arm everybody and crime will go away, for some reason that doesn't seem to be working..

There is a reason that when concealed carry laws are enacted in a state the violent crime rate DROPS.
Canada does allow firearms to be owned by private citizens. The long gun ban was repealed in 2012 and handguns are allowed but there is registration required.

We need to get this **** under control. I sure hope Canada starts to take things seriously.....This is a coordinated Muslim attack.....You think the fact that their citizens are not armed has anything to do with it.
Hmmm...

I do not and will never believe guns make you safer, as gun ownership in the US is a stark reminder of... The right has and has always had blinders on when it comes to this..... I would no more advocate taking guns from US citizens than taking cars from them but both contribute to the death rate and not the "feel safe" the right wing is constantly trying to peddle...
Really? It's 2am and someone is breaking in your house and you don't reach for a gun? Your traveling late at night with your family and have a flat tire and a car stops to "help" but really want to help themselves to your belongings instead? A gun would not make you feel safer? Able to protect what is yours??--

i could go on and on with stories that having a gun handy does make me feel safer. Guns are nothing exotic to me meaning I have used and had them most of my life. I can tear my favorites down blindfolded and reassemble them the same way. I shoot quite often in the Winter (usually cause I'm bored and want to do something) so maybe all that makes me think of guns as another tool I can use? I don't know, but I stand behind my statement of people having guns is a right and I do think having them can make people feel safer.
i have my CCDW but don't have a pistol strapped to my side everyday but it's in my briefcase. The only time in the recent past that I actually carried to make me feel safer was when we went downtown to the Opera House to see "the Phantom of the Opera" which was good btw,.....but I knew walking back at night with my lady to the car in the parking garage was a situation that could get "hairy" so I put a small pistol in my pocket as a just in case.
My big go to thing on a daily basis are my knives. I carry two....one to use (Spyderco ambitious) for opening boxes, cutting tasks and it's the knife I pull out if someone says hey do you have a knife. Now the other one is a Spyderco Mannix 2 XL (look it up). It scares anyone who thinks knives that big shouldn't be legal and to be honest I don't pull that out in public because of people who are "sheep" and get offended easily.
I just like options!!!
I'm going to buy a cane, one with a sword in it. Its a health aid, in more ways than one. When I lived in the boonies, here in KY I open carried a pistol, plain sight, but only while walking my dog, for mutual protection. Talk about a scary blade, ever see those water mellon knives?

Give it up fellas Liberals are what they are. They would run the murderer out of their house with kind words of encouragement and love. Please Mister murderer don't hurt me because I don't believe in guns or violence.
Oh ok liberal I understand and I shall leave now knowing what a kind and non violent person you are..................Delusional insanity.
Maybe if they ever break into my house and I can get to my gun first you guys can come say some nice words over their dead ass body. Good Lord it makes my head hurt.............stupidity makes my frickin head hurt!
Amen, same here brother. Here is something that's also gets me...many Liberals feel that the Police will save them if they are doing their job and solving every crime, responding to any call within seconds, raising kids the gubment way and not spanking or being "mean" with discipline so they wont grow up to be crooks.Give it up fellas Liberals are what they are. HAHAHAHA yeah ok....reality check...police do what they can and cannot be at every call much less within seconds. Our country has enabled several classes of people to raise crooks and even encourage it to get what they want out of others....they will never stop. The gubment having a major say in how kids are raised is wrong. I say major because they will always have some influence but the day in and day out raising of children is on the parents.

I'm sure you are right speaking individually and in a given situation that having a firearm would give a little peace of mind but from the standpoint of the country as a whole I do not believe the general public feels more secure with guns everywhere as opposed to a country where they are not as plentiful, as another poster said, do you guys believe the regular citizens in the middle east feels better that every body they come across is carrying an assault rifle... I was in vietnam for 12 months and every soldier had a weapon close by and that did not make for a "feel safe" situation...
WHAT an asinine response.............
You're REALLY going to compare the situation in IRAQ and Afghanistan to gun ownership in the states.......REALLY?
Don't be a pinhead.
Later,
Geo
Even if I spelled it right, you wouldn't recognize sarcasm. Lightnen up, next you'l be hearing voices. Really geo, I'm not pickin on you.
Your thought process baffles me. First you comparte the cultlure here to the middle east, which is abusrd. Second, you ignore facts that are staring you right in the face, and instead, stick to your opinion. The thing about your opinion is that it is wrong, facts PROVE that guns cause lower crime rates and prevent crimes. Not sure what is so hard to figure out about it.--
