Winter to the Cumberland

Winter to the Cumberland
Has come early
As leaves yet to fall
Shiver and quiver
Below velocious snow clouds
Wood smoke from chimney tops
Drift in layers over the wildwood
The cold foggy evening sky
Echo distant geese in flight
The evergreens now showcase
Their symmetry and elegance
Against a leafless landscape
The Cumberland now reflects
Sunrises and sunsets
In glorious shimmering splendor
Before bed, its time
Time to ready gear
Bobbers filled with balanced lead
Flies in duckfeather, chartreuse and red
At daybreak, its time
Time for the white churned spray
To fall onto the cold black water
Time to defy the ones
Who ask why
Its time
Time for the long rod and fly
