Unfortunately it isn't that cut and dry. It's not a matter of being a union member and being able to feed your family or not being a union member and being on food stamps.

I'm not a union member, attended technical college and do pretty good. My field deals with companies who have unions and for 99% of the time everything runs smooth. My problems with unions are at the management/corporate level. They are so large that they are basically another form of gubment.....meaning they carry to much power to me. They can impose their will on elections and have a big say in how certain industries run based on their opinions. Their tactics and goals don't always line up with my opinions. Being told to go on strike, trying to shut down an industry or business because they want something more bothers me. Seeing the childish actions of grown men by union guys bother me. We all have seen these folks go on strike and verbally abuse their work mates who cross the picket line or scabs that come in. We have also seen how violent they can get toward others who try and picket against them.
The unions have some bad press and they did it to themselves, heck corporations have bad press as well but again they are basically at fault or the gubment has been involved with them.
My dad wasn't union and did well. Most of my friends are non union and do well so I guess unions are not the answer. They are just another employment vehicle that has a ton of power....at least they had a ton at one time.
