I've been on both sides of the Union issue as well, but fact is unions have come to a point where they cause more harm than good,my grandfather,Father, and Uncles all fought to get the UMWA in the mines of Southwest Virginia and Harlan County ,Ky where they worked for a good reason, they were forced to hand shovel up to 26 tons of coal a night in dangerous and cramped conditions, some were forced to live in Company Camp Housing that never had running water and terrible construction while getting paid Company Script that could only be spent at the Company owned store.
The Unions helped these people get out from under terrible mistreatment.
I have been a Union member in 3 separate Unions over the years, I worked for Westmoreland Coal Company at Bullit Mine in Big stone Gap,Va shoveling the belt line and spreading rock dust back in the 70's until they went on strike and nearly starved my young family to death. I nearly took a scab job at St Charles mine that was on strike too to make ends meet, but they shot and killed a friend I went to school with for crossing the pickett line and I said enough and got a job for Yuengling Brothers Meats in Covington,Ky working on the kill floor running gut buggies and chasing cows in and killing them,I was a member of a Meat Packers Union that my future wife's Father was the President of the Union. They went on strike and I faced poverty waiting on a contract to get settled once again,so I packed up and moved to Plano,Texas where I had friends from High School and where I was told was plenty of work framing new houses just north of Dallas.
I worked in a meat packing house on the kill floor on a smaller scale and non-union for nearly the same amount of $$$,instead of killing 250 cows a day we killed 25 with only me and a full blooded Cherokee Indian from Oklahoma, they treated me well and the old Indian and his wife wanted to adopt me because I was dark complexion and had Cherokee features from my Great Grandmother, little did he know my 4th Great Grandfather Vincent Hobbs wasthe man who killed Cherokee Chief Benge in SW Virginia. I managed to get a DUI after my 1st wife left me to go back home and my supposed friends took the money I had hid in a Flour Can and spent t instead of bailing me out,the old Indian finally found me and got me out and I left for Louisiana where I made the best money I ever made in my life working on offshore drilling rigs.It was all non-union and we where treated like kings even though the work was very hard and dangerous.
The 3rd Union job was only for 6 months at a Chrysler Boat Plant in Louisiana that shut the doors and laid everyone off without warning.
I came home to Kentucky and started working as a Carpentry Sub-Contractor and built my company into an S-Corporation at which time I was approached by the Local Carpenters Union that tried to force me into their Union under BS and then subtle Threats from their representative Guido. Had I joined that union my company would have been bankrupt in no time, besides the demands unions put on businesses, they use that money for Democratic Political Contributions and I don't vote for party lines, but to assist and basically use voting fraud by practically demanding union members vote for candidates like Barrack Huessein Obama goes against my principles, watching guys who make$35 an hour lean on walls all day at large commercial projects and then demand more sticks under my craw.
Sorry I gave my life story, but Unions are at the point where they are causing as much harm as good,we don't want to go back to the coal camp days, but we don't want to run small businesses out of business either as they make up a huge portion of the labor force in this country and we certainly don't need idiots like Obama,Charlie Rangel,Sheila Jackson,Harry Reid,Nancy Pelosi,Etc being elected from crooked union donations from what is basically organized crime
