What is the best way to tell if firewood is ready to burn. I have looked it up on the net and a lot of sites say to get a wood moister meeter. I always thought if it splits easy it was ready to burn.

I'm not a firewood expert but my opinion is if the wood looks dry before I split it it's good. Of course once I split it it's an easy call because you see inside.
I split a lot of wood with an axe last year (heck with that) so this year I borrowed a buddies wood splitter and I split a bunch of wood in a few hours and never felt my back ache! Hahaha gotta love Hydraulics!!!

I think you're right. Might also try smelling it after you split it. The sure way to tell is put in the fireplace. If it smokes a lot and doesn't ignite quickly then it's green.

Fellas believe it or not but many species of wood is easier to split right after it's cut versus waiting. Split it immediately and place in dry area or cover, usually about three to four months and you will be ok. Ryan split a small piece and see how it ignites. If it starts quickly with little smoke you are golden if it is hard to start and smokes its wet.
