For now...........it will be.
And ANY SINGLE ONE OF YOU CAN.............there is no hunting season for Lions, therefore they are not out of season, and are not covered by current law.
NOT saying it is right or wrong, just saying there is no law....Yet.

I personally think this was a pet that got away or was turned out. We shall see but I do think the department did the right thing here after seeing the story on WAVE 3 last evening. The decision was made because night fall was quickly approaching. It was too late to go and retrieve a tranquilizer gun therefore to error the side of public safety the animal was put down.
Exotic animals are illegal in Kentucky but there are plenty of people that feel the need to own a Lion, Tiger, Cougar or Bear with NO experience what so ever on the matter.

Everybody is saying that, but food is easy pickings for a big cat like that in this country.Like I said earlier, besides the healthy deer herd here,we've had a huge amount of dogs, pets, and small livestock come up missing the past couple years .It coincides with numerous cougar sightings in surrounding counties. I can't find it ,but I was sent a video from friends that a teenager in his deer stand took a video of a cougar on Hwy 22 between Falmouth and Williamstown around Goforth. It was a legitimate video and the cougar looked different than the one killed Monday.
I'll find it soon, folks in Falmouth know the boy who took it,just haven't got up there to ask yet.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that we have a few young males migrating in state now, they have been steadily moving east for over 20 years, there are confirmed wild cougars in Illinois and Indiana, pictures and sightings in Ohio.
I know that you can buy them, and some people probably do turn them loose, but in honesty, what difference does it make if the thing is hunting and killing in the wild. You can turn a hog loose and in a year it's as wild as the next one, same thing applies to any animal.
We heard the same thing about bears before they said yes, they are here.We see them in Pendleton county regular now, here's one from November https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...5d&oe=55041B6F
i have seen several pics of large cats with friends who have trail cams and I could hardly believe it. Maybe they were Mointain Lions?? I'm such a skeptic that I would have to see the dang thing myself to erase all doubt of it being real.Everybody is saying that, but food is easy pickings for a big cat like that in this country.Like I said earlier, besides the healthy deer herd here,we've had a huge amount of dogs, pets, and small livestock come up missing the past couple years .It coincides with numerous cougar sightings in surrounding counties. hope you get up there and talk to them.....I'd like to know.
I know bears are in Clark County since my buddy lives and hunts there. He has them on trail cams and even had the local news out there one day about bears on his property.

I'll post the video as soon as I can track it down,I must have erased it or got it on Facebook and never saved it thinking it was easily available.
I've also been thinking about everyone saying a pet release would be fat, looks to me like a wild cougar would have better luck hunting and eating than a pet release would. So unless it was just recently released a pet would be suffering more, especially in a place like central and northern Ky where pickings would be easy.
Another thought,if this was a pet cougar, instead f a young, wild male, would it have been so afraid of a woman and her dog?
All very good points. I also recall the mt lion in Connetict that had migrated from South Dakota.
