I understand that a diamond is carbon aged and pressurized. I worked for the linde div. of union carbide, we could get linde star saphires at discount prices. They also were working on ruby lazers, and one of the proto types disappeared, and was found or traced to cuba. Gem rejects were just thrown into a dumpster, till some enterprising soul found that jewlers would buy them.
