There is zero work being done to the dam. The tower that is located adjacent to the dam is what they are doing maintenance on. The corps have heard reports of rumors about the dam being worked on for a leak. They want to assure people the dam is not leaking. In fact the dam is not what they are working on. It is the tower that is being worked on.
If you go to Green River Lake Facebook you can read the official letter from the Corps of Engineers. I do not have a Facebook account but I was still able to access it because it is a page that is open to the public.
There is no official word on how long maintenance to the tower will last. The official statement is when the job is completed they will let the lake rise back to a normal level. They anticipate everything will be complete by March 15 and once finished they will let the lake rise back to it's normal level. Most of what I typed is from what I overheard an interview on the radio (92.7) with someone from the corps of engineers. They said that divers had been going down and doing work and everything was on schedule. The main thing they wanted to let the public know was the work being done to the tower is routine maintenance. There is no leaks and the work that is being done is routine maintenance. In order to preform it more efficiently they choose to lower the level 4 ft which is actually the winter pool level from when the lake was impounded 1971 until 2002. From 1971-2002 it was 664 so there is really nothing amazing to see if you remember the "old" days. The level of 668 started in 2002.
