Green River Lake help

I am planning on taking my father to green river to do a little bass fishing when the weather warms up a bit for him. He is a disabled Veteran and has a hard time handling the cold or wind. I have been to green river twice over the last few years and do not know it well. I want to ensure he has a good outing when we go I am thinking early april or so. Any advice on general locations and techniques used would be great info or anything else you think would help. Thank you all.

It mostly depends on the temp. I've seen early April temps in the low to mid 50's some years and mid 60's in other years. If the temps are in the 60's it should be on unless a cold front blows through. If it's in the low 50's you might need to bring some dynamite. Of course in the spring other variables will come into play like high water in some years and clear water in other years. To increase the chances of catching instead of fishing I would wait till late April if possible.

I might suggest you consider switching lakes and hiring a guide. Your potential for success will go up exponentially. You might call Dave Stewart who guides on Kentucky lake and Barkley. He is excellent and a veteran himself.

I agree id go mid to late april. You can generally pick up a spinnerbait and get bit. Throw a spinnerbait all day and get in the backs of some pockets and youre very likely to run into a musky or two at some point which is a heck of a bonus. Id watch the weather and make sure you dont hit a major cold front as that can shut them down when theyre trying to move shallow

Current weather will be a big factor. That time of year it can be daytime highs of mid 70's or it could be in the low 40's. I have seen frost in early April and sometimes the overnight low is 50 degrees. Also the weather leading up to your trip will play a huge role. The more warmer the water the more likely to find them in spawning areas. The cooler the water the more they will be on the outside of the spawning areas. "If" we have a "typical" early April bass should be getting ready to make the move to spawning areas. "Typically" by the 3rd week of April I visibly see bass on beds. Hence the reason I say early April they are on the move looking for bedding areas.

One thing is for sure though...early April is a big transition period. Bass may be here one day and gone the next. If the weather changes for better or worse they will make a big move. That's not really a bad thing though cause once you figure out where they are you can typically find multiple fish and can duplicate your results in areas that are made the same. One common factor will be regardless of current weather and water temperature bass will be close to a spawning area in early April...it's just a matter of figuring out where they are at when you come.

As for techniques pick up your favorite power fishing rods and cover water until you figure out where they are located. Then slow down and pick the area apart. April on Green River Lake is by far my most favorite time on the lake. I take vacation every year in April. Currently I am only working 11 of 30 days in April. I am considering taking off 2 more and only working 9 days in the month of April
