--The tax payer shouldn't - the employee should make the attempt to better themselves instead of making the choices they make and then expect others to bail them out when the money runs dry. Those that pay in the most rarely utilize the service and those that pay in the least utilize it the most. Government assistance should be for those that truly need it - medical hardship, disability, handicap, etc. If 100% of the people made a legitimate effort and put forth the legwork then 5% would need assistance. That's speculation and my perfect world, but when the first number drops from 100 the second number will climb towards 50. Eventually half the people will work to support the other half that won't. "D" or "R" denomination means squat, until personal accountability comes to the fore front this country will continue with the steady state of decline. Nobody wants to take responsibilty for the choices they make.
Basically what we disagree on is the number of people that legitimately need the help versus those that could do better but simply choose not to.
everybody cant be a doctor... Just because somebody has to pick up your trash shouldnt mean he has to choose between food and heat so his company can realize bigger profits.
We have a good country for reasons other than the greed you guys seem to hold dear.
Good grief you blame Reagan Obama has huge increase in people on food stamps and welfare. We have second generation prop,e on welfare they are gaming the system. We have a food pantry here in my town they have serve 900 people the right wing folks you are knocking go to the pantry donate their money and time unloading trucks filling boxes etc. the lady who runs it told me they can not ask how much money they make nor can they ask them to come help unload trucks or fill boxes. I asked her if anyone volunteered to help she said two out do nine hundred, I asked her if they appreciated the food pantry she said some do but most think they are entitled. I drive by the pantry and see all the cars and don't see many junkers.
I think everyone on the government teat should pass a drug test, I also think they should join a union and strike for better benefits.
Greed doesn't motivate me, but thanks for trying to paint me in that light. I'll tell you what does motivate me - raising my kids to become productive citizens that know right from wrong. Thats why I go to work every day. I don't try to live like an NFL superstar on my salary. If I did, I'd be in the same boat as the trash collector that tries to live like a neurosurgeon. When I lived in college I lived like I had no money. I plucked fish out of cedar creek in auburn indiana for food, drove a beat up saturn and walked up to the hospital breakroom if I wanted to watch tv. A lot of people have a distorted view when it comes to needs vs wants. Plenty of money for smokes, rims, gadgets, bigger houses than necessary, newer cars, nice clothes, etc. but not enough money for the rent/house note or food. Flat screen tv's, dish network, iPhone 6, high speed internet, going to the movies and eating out three times a week aren't necessities like advertisers would have you believe. Oxygen, some form of roof over your head, water, and food are necessities. If you truly can't afford the latter with your job, then yeah, take a handout, on me. No problem with that whatsoever. How many people do you see griping about having no money post it on an online forum of some sort from their smartphone? Check any relevant comments section from a yahoo article sometime. You had the money for Internet and the time to post about it.
Do you really think if the minimum wage is raised employers won't reduce jobs and raise costs to offset the wage increase?

I was thinking the same thing and almost posted something like this. Spot on man.Greed doesn't motivate me, but thanks for trying to paint me in that light. You know.....I been thinking about buying a boat for years and I mean looking until I get so excited I almost toss my plan out the window and say heck with it I'm getting one now! I am waiting for $650 a month child support to end in May before I get something. I can't afford to do it now without messing with my budget that I give myself after all the other things are taken care of.
Will i go out and buy a fancy Bassboat with seat warmers and wifi? Nope! I'll buy what I want which is a used boat that fits into my new budget after I take care of the things I need to take care of. My point is I could spend myself past my means and live like there is no tomorrow and convince myself that I need that $85k bassboat/$65k truck and go broke in a year or two and blame others that I can't afford what I deserve!!!....or I can use my 1995 Chevy and buy a used boat. This way I still save for retirement, health insurance, rainy day fund and can afford my mortgage, auto insurance, bills and escort services(kidding!) and have money left over for Golf, guns, Rodsand reels, knives and other necessities!![]()
You are completely off base..........if you have an iphone and a 50 inch big screen.......you're not poor.--
i have seen such things also, don't know how some manage to do these things but it is by no means the norm... Most people who qualify for gov assistance struggle from what I have seen... There are those who are losers and game the system, I could care less if they take benefits away from these losers, that is not what this thread was about... If you work a full time job you should not have to feed your kids with food stamps...
Watch these dumbasses flock to best buy and other places with the gubment assisted tax returns due to earned income credits......
It is amazing to watch these folks buy up goodies when the're so "poor" they cannot afford food.
That iphone that costs 100 bucks a month or that 1200 dollar big screen........by my calculations....that is 200/month for ONE hear to buy FOOD.
If you feel so bad for them.......GIVE up your GUBMENT check to help them out.

I don't care if they put it back into the economy. I don't want to GIVE it to them in the first place.

Good post. Liberal logic does not compute.

Dude you HIT the nail on the head.I have two fellow employees, both who get Medicaid benefits. One just purchased a 2014 vehicle, only to crash it not 30 minutes after buying it. The other's husband came through yesterday - driving a nice new mini-cooper. I drive a 2004 vehicle. Go figure. Why better yourselves when you can just get a check that allows you to buy nice things? It's a no brainier really. All of us who go to work day after day are the morons.....
I know a **** ton of folks who are "just getting by" that actually act like their the freakin rockerfellers.........
If you make 30 or 40k, you CANNOT afford a 50,000 bass boat. WTF kind of dumbass moron are you. BUT these are the fools that we're creating.....AND this same fool will as quick a stink on **** try to collect a gubment check for stubbing his toe.
Good jobs don't go begging.
