I just don't understand the logic of some of you guys. Union employees DO NOT WORK FOR THE UNION!. This BS about protecting lazy asses dosn't compute.The work must get done. Thats where your pay comes from.You actually think a guy wants to do the work of a slacker for only his pay? I didn't mind helping a guy who wasn't feeling good, or who had a temporary problem. But dead wood didn't hget the work done. Management directs the work force, its in almost all labor conytracts, if loafing is going on, its the responsibility of management to fix the problem.As a union steward I couldn't get a guy to work faster or "hit the ball". If I tried I would standing in front of the NLRB, and in big trouble.I f I told someone to slow down, I would be fired, and in most cases the union wouldn't back me. The members would vote me out of office. In our plant you ndidn't need to join the union, and no dues were collected. But you could go to the union steward and ask why "nobody" likes me.

Well your opinion is from a pro union guy and I get that. Me, not so much of a union guy and my experiences of dealing with them, not being a member, shows me how they can be to the rest of us. Sabotage on our work, stealing tools from us and just the general attitude of acting like children because they were working around non Union guys under the same roof showed me the true attitude of that plant.

UPS went on strike in the 90's and my buddy was on the line with signs and yelling at anyone who went back to work as they drove in the gate. These were friends of theirs who crossed the picket line and they were dealt with harshly for crossin that line....that also makes me wonder about all the "nice" things about unions. They turn on eachother and target non-Union workers for sabotage. Do I think unions were needed at one point Yep! Now not so much. I watched them try and takeover several small companies and they failed but man they were ruthless in getting folks to try and get on board.

I work with a few Union electrical firms and the men I deal with are great. They have a good reputation and Other than knowing they are Union there is no difference. They can gear up and get a lot of men on site faster then most non-Union companies and I actually like that. I don't lump all unions into a bad spot but my experiences are 75% bad that's for sure.

i talked with Union stewards (one of my good friends with UPS) and he tells me how they can "hide" or "protect" idiots. No offense but I take his word as a working person compared to how you used to do it. He laughs when I say that's messed up using their power to protect an idiot...just to win the game against management.

I'm mostly talking about industrial workers. I worked construction jobs, but didn't care for it, There is a world of difference between a production worker and some trade workers. I won't go into the teamster thug union, which I detest. I'd prefer to have a journey man do some needed work. My cousins are construction workers, retired now,one was an ironworker who's work can still be seen from miles away.But when you get into production work, the work MUST be done. Loafers make it hard for other workers, many union officers would gladly be able to see these fired, but thats management, and in production, the loafers dont last long. I liked my last job, but I left a good job to get it. Went to the state employment service, to apply for a job, took two hours of testing, and was told my application would be sent to the employer,I was called took more tests and didn't get employed. But related jobs were opened to me. These positions had requirements that a lot of folks didn't have.

I have a buddy that is a plumber.....NON UNION. He was working on the Yum Center one day and out of a job the next. His company was replaced by a union company based solely on RACISM. That dirt bag ******* Coleman threatened to pull all his "black" workers from the site because there were no black plumbers or electricians. He had a whole bunch of pull with a few union groups that were providing labor. They all threatened to walk out over a few non union plumbers.

My plumber friend lost his job when he was laid off by the company due to them no longer having work at the Yum Center.

Funny thing. He was asked nearly a year later to go work on the Yum Center and told them to go F themselves. He ended up opening his own company, and is 100x better off for it.

Thats one trade where I opt for a liscensed pro. I saw what a bunch of yahoos are capable of when my son bought a new house in a new subdivision in atlanta.One week and nothing would drain in the half the homes.A year later many doors wouldn't work right.The builder long gone, no recourse for shoddy work
