    Jigs ?

Just bought me another 7 foot St Croix Mojo MH to throw jigs on. I did not like the one rod I was using as I lost several fish last year as I would stick them turn them wind a couple of times and bingo they would get off. I am just sure I was not getting good hook set was the problem so this new rod is stiffer with a harder tip.

Now I have a question do you guys throw braid with your jigs? I fish mostly highland res therefore I am dealing with super clear water most of the time. I don't want a leader with braid and I am thinking of going purely flourocarbon. I change line a lot during the year and man it can get expensive and find myself using low vis mono's sometimes but I think it is costing me fish at times.

What are your thoughts, I love the flouro feel and hook set but memory comes quick and makes me change it, gets expensive....

Years ago I switched to flouro for just about everything and my jig rod was one of them. I use 17#-20# Red Label Seaguar and could not be happier with it. I respooled once last year due to running out of line from re tying often but not as much as I did with mono.

My jerkbait and topwater rod have mono but that's it. I use braid on my c-rig with a leader and my spinning rod. I HATED braid until I learned that knot (not sure what it's called) and now I will never go back to mono for anything fished on the bottom. At Christmas tackle warehouse had Seaguar on sale so I bought a 1000 yards of 15# red label and got a nice price break that way. I use that on my tube/lizard rod and spinnerbait rod.

I agree that it is more expensive but now that I switched and understand the benefits it's worth it. I'm gonna give it a good test on the Kissimmee Chain in early March. I'll have it on my tube/lizard rod, spinnerbait and a misc(flukes,Yum dingers) bait rod. Rubbing against pads and weeds all day will rub the main line more than the knot area like when fishing rocks so it's going to be interesting go it goes....I'm betting it will shine with no difference in performance.

Good stuff Don appreciate the feed back. I have always loved the Flouro but hated the price. But you are saying that with this Seaguar red lable it will last you through the season without bad memory setting up? That has been my only issue with FC line in the past as I hate swirly line.

Do you primarily tie the palomar knot with the FC, that has always been my go to using it? Also worry about diameter issue's in clear water and bait movement performance. Isn't the FC bigger per average in line diameter?

Mark this is the knot I use (first video with gary) and to me it's perfect...never had an issue with a knot since using this. Like Gary says there are other knots that work....... but the Palomar knot made me hate flouro. I broke off so much I was cussing that line!! I think George or Steven posted to try this knot and that has been the best advice on this line. I'm glad I tried it!!

I think Shaw has an extra loop in his video by looping it on his index finger but I don't do that.

Your right and flouro is a tad larger in diameter but only by a very small amount. The 15# red Label flouro I use is .330mm and the mono from seaguar (Senshi) mono is .300mm so to me its no biggie.

I had always heard that flouro was to stiff and will get crazy with line memory but I haven't found that to be true. I don't use it on spinning reels so that could be an issue?

One thing for sure and like I mentioned the knot is the most important part of using flouro. Until I learned the knot I posted in the reply I would watch it on my iphone while on the lake to get it right and now I can do it fast and perfect.

Man there are so many choices out there and I'm willing to bet like anything each line has its fans. Good luck!

I use 20# seaguar invenx (sp) it is awesome for jigs on a 7' loomis rod. On soft plastics I use 15#. I did mix it up last year with some 15# Vicious floro and is ok. I would use it again. I like the Seaguar best but for the price the Vicious is not bad. My fishing partner used it and really likes it.

I think it is the opposite the flouro is thinner in dia than mono. I have used bass pro flouro for years and use the 8lb on spinning reels fishing Bull Shoals lake, the 8 lb is about as thin as six and it is really strong I have no problems with memory either.. I tie the knot as the first video and have for about ten years it was taught to me when I was fishing 4 and 6 lb mono on Bullshoals they called it the Bull Shoals night knot because it is so easy to tie. However I do not double the line I run it through pinch it at the top wrap it five times and do not have any problems with the knot. I think I will try doubling the line as it has to increase knot strength.

I am now using more braid on my spinning and attaching a 2 to 3 ft flouro leader with the double uni knot and really like the sensitivity and no stretch of braid.

I too switched exclusively to Red Label. I love it. It is not as "smooth" as other floro, but just as strong as any of the top brands.

It doesn't tie very well with "bad" knots, much like all floro. I use the shaw grigsby floro knot, and it is the BEST of the BEST.

also, it doesn't like to tie to thinner diameter lines. So 10 lb braid to floro will create a sharp edge that will cut the not. But 40lb braid is not so bad. This goes for thinner floro too.

In Canada, I use 20lb fireline and then a 17lb floro leader. I have to manage this quite a bit, since it is a little light on the fireline side.......

    Later,

    when i usta

Hall I fished clear water also, cumberland, dale and the great lakes. IMHO braid and seagar work very well jig fishing. But also remember your jigs, a small file or hone will help with hook sets. Plus I like punisher jigs, they stick.

I keep my hooks very sharp, not the issue. I love punisher but am a HUGE D&L jig fan as well. I have used FC many times and always when I do certain types of fishing, like shakey heads, drop shotting but wanted to get some thoughts on going strickly flouro on my heavy jig fishing with my new stick.

I love some of these thoughts on here and digging that new knot deal. I have to practice knots a few times to get them so that video will really help me.

Mhall the knot Gary showed is very easy to tie if you tie it to a jig or something with some weight so when you pass it through the eye of a jig head and take it up and pinch it with the main line and wrap it the weight helps.

If you tie it to just a hook it becomes a problem when you try to wrap it. try tying the knot first with just a single line just run the line through the jig head run about 24 inches of the tag line through the eye pinch the tag and main line together about ten inches above the jig head with a long piece of tag line wrap it around both lines below your pinch area five times then take the line back up through the loop at the top and cinch down. This is just like the video except it is done with single line and will be easier to learn. after you tie it several times I think you will be able to tie the double easier.

The knot Shawn ties would probably be easier to tie with just a hook, I might have to try that one, myself. I hope I have KNOT confused you.
