    Worst fishing experience ever?

Whats your worst fishing experience ever? In my personal experience, I went to a local lake and caught 4, that is 2 turtles, a crow and a duck. none of which were my fault. Oh yeah, my baitcaster rod also broke. I lost like 3 crank baits and my fishing bag(tackle box) got kicked into the lake by some kid and lost a bunch of stuff.

All of this happened in about 3 hours. I was really mad after that trip.

    Tell me your story.

Several years ago, we had a tourney at Dale. My partner and I make the 100 mile trip, pay our entry fee, and blast off with it sleeting and maybe 40 degrees. This was to be a night tourney so it was just going to get worse from there. Ran from State dock all the way up in Obey to Big Eagle Creek. Start fishing and with the rain had head gear on, etc... At one point maybe 15 mins in, I turn around and my partner is on the floor in a fetal position. After some prodding, he is in severe pain. So, back up the lake, take out, and get him home. He had a kidney stone lodged in a bad place and ended up needing surgery to get it cleared up. That was the one that comes to mind for me although I'm sure it was a worse trip for him than for me.

Was anchored out at Nolin and a jetskier got within 5 feet of my boat intentionally spraying me with about 200 gallons of water. Worse than that was hitting another boat at Nolin at night in front of the boat ramp at Wilderness Rd. They didn't have their lights on, it was foggy, they were "bluegill fishing." Boat went up onto theirs, trapping a woman underneath, who was treated at Hospital for a concussion. Both were over the alcohol limit. They actually tried to sue my dad with the heavy hitter. He countersued and they eventually had to pay the repairs on our boat.

Night time striper fishing on Cumberland, and didn't bother to check the weather report. Came out of Jamestown about 30 minutes before dark and tried to head up to Lily.

Got on our bank as dark hit, and started to cast. About 5 minutes later, the thickest fog I've ever seen rolled in. You could barely see the front of the boat from the back of the boat.

Not a thing we could do except guide the trolling motor toward the direction we *thought* the bank was and tie up. That took us about an hour LOL.

Let me tell you, I've been in sub-zero cold many times but there is *nothing* more miserable than a 40-degree night with everything covered in the moisture from dense fog. No heater, no blankets, not a thing we could do but huddle up and shiver and wait it out.

Dawn breaks, great. But the fog doesn't lift. It was after 9AM before we could see enough to move, and even then it was stop and start, all the while afraid some nut was going to bust through us at 70 mph.

    Worst. Night. Ever.

    Boat Sank

We were halibut fishing / black bear hunting in Prince William Sound, Alaska about 35 miles out from the port of Whittier. We had spent the previous two nights moored up to a Coast Guard buoy in Port Nellie Juan. We woke up Monday morning & were discussing breakfast & hunting options at the same time. We noticed the boat was sitting low in the water. Started the motor, it backfired & started to sink. We transferred as much as we could to the two inflatables before the boat went down, transom first. No Mayday went out as the batteries were shorted. Two of us took an inflatable to find another boat (Good Samaritan boat) with a radio & called Coast Guard. The Coast Guard was conducting exercises in the area & sent a SAR helicopter to rescue us. They would take all four of us to Whittier, but no gear. The Good Samaritan boat took two of us to Whittier where we retrieved the boat owner's trailer & truck, returning to Anchorage. The next morning we left with my truck, boat & trailer to retrieve the other two & all our gear. That's the reader's digest version, it was ugly. Geico refused to cover my friend's boat.

Your boat and that back seat again!! I was also a victim of your seat but only fell into the boat and the only thing I lost was my pride!

My buddy and I were night fishing at Norris a couple of summers ago. As we trolled from one point to the next in Cove Creek, I got a phone call, picked up my phone to see who it was, didn't know the number and stuck the phone in my pocket. On the next point, I set the hook on a fish and the seat pedestal snapped and backwards I went into the water. When I surfaced, the first words out of my mouth were, "My rod!" Luckily, my Quantum PT rod and Chronarch were floating right next to my head. I grabbed the rod and layed it in the boat and then I remembered that my cell phone, wallet, cigarettes and lighter were in my pockets. I was so weighted down I couldn't get back in the boat (didn't have a ladder) so my buddy had to troll over to the bank for me to get in. Luckily, I had my rain gear in the boat, so I stripped down to my boxers and put on my rain gear and, of course, kept fishing. We made a quick run up to Big Creek and were fishing a point there. I was standing on the back deck and heard a noise at my feet. I jerked my head around just in time to see my Skeet Reese spinnerbait rod and Chronarch MG go sliding off the deck and into the lake. Couldn't catch it and tried for 30 minutes to hook it with no success. Now here's the kicker - it was my birthday! As I said to my fishing buddy, "Happy $%@# birthday to me!"

    Boat slid off trailer

Early November several years ago, I had the itch to fish on a 40 degree day. After getting blanked on a windy day with the current MOVING, I loaded up at sunset. My small jon-boat slipped off my trailer and back into the creek. By myself, I had to make the tough decision to strip down and jump in after it. I didn't want the boat and everything still in it going over the dam located a short ways downstream. That was the coldest water and the longest swim of my life...I swear I thought I was going to die before catching it.
The thought occurred to me while reading these posts that, for many of us, we are pretty blessed in our unluckiest moments.

Decided to fish one night around dark so I loaded up. I got to the ramp only to have to wait out a severe thunderstorm warning...no big deal the fish will tear it up afterwards...rain stopped so I prepared the boat...straps off, gear on front deck, black lights plugged in, plug in, trolling motor plugged up and on....I back her in throw the truck into park and set my e brake...I untie the boat from the front and jump in to fire the motor....smoke oh crap where in that coming from?...I panic and start ripping at wires burning my hand in the process...My blacklight cord had been pinched in my seat bracket and shorted out and caught fire. Lucky me I ripped out the right handful of cords so the boat wouldn't go ablaze. I had to trailer the boat and work on it under the dock light for an hour to get anything to work besides my trolling motor and big motor. I got the lights and livewell pump to work but no bilge....lucky me it started storming an hour later so with no bilge I had to head back home. Pride hurt I called into work the next afternoon to work on my baby and get her back on the water.
