Angry United Steel Workers - Oil Workers Strike

WTF I would imagine that it would be helpful to this thread if I post the average starting salaries for workers in this industry; Refinery Worker I makes a nationwide average of $51,261.00, now remember, all this means is the AVERAGE in other words, 50% make more and 50% make less (so keep that balance in mind). Average BONUS for this entry level is some $3,000. Average BENEFITS for this position; $23,270.00 (this is the employers share only, not employee contributions to FICA, 401K, Time Off, Disability, Healthcare, Pension, etc.). So, what we're looking at overall for this first step employee is some $77,531.00. I caution you again, this an average, country wide and should be viewed as same, in other words, we're lumping "small field" operators in with large corporations in Texas, the Dakota's etc. When we get into such things as experience, education, etc., the time is the limit on this average range, in other words, well in excess of $100K. I hope this gives some perspective to the salary and benefits range of the entry level position and what one could expect until there's a substantial gain inexperience level.

With that said, however, one of the primary complaints of some of the interviewee's at a couple of the refineries is the fact that their "Cadillac insurance" will be no more due to Obamacare guidelines. I can't help but wonder how many of these same folks went and voted for the idiot in the WH?

Wait until the UAW members start getting their "bills" for those sweetheart deals on ObamaCare. Most JackWagons on this site don't realize they were EXEMPT from Obamacare when it passed.

    They are no longer exempt.

The serious back door rogering is about to start.

thats a dirty nasty dangerous job, the workers are exposed to dangerous chemicals, fire hazards, explosions, they earn ever dime they get. and if the jobs they have were nonunion their wages would be cut in half, just look at the operators engineer jobs here in Ky they pay 37.00 per hour because they are Union, go south to the neighboring states Tennessee and Virginia, with the right to work law and doing the same job pays 12.00 and 14.00 per hour.
it's not like the oil companys can't afford to pay workers,
EXXONMOBIL CHAIRMAN REX W. TILLERSON COMMENTED:
“ExxonMobil’s first quarter earnings and cash flow reflect the company’s continuing focus on delivering profitable growth and creating long-term shareholder value.Strong performance in the Upstream benefitted from improved production mix and increased unit profitability.
“First quarter 2014 earnings were $9.1 billion, down 4 percent from the first quarter of 2013. Upstream earnings were $7.8 billion, up 11 percent from the previous year.

    Where?

Do we send the donations to the refiners of america? I don't want to see them endure the hardships of any strikes.

    Walk in thier shoes

these guys earn the money. Most of those operator jobs are technician rated. 24/7 operations never too cold or hot to work, if you have an attendant job. you're working with volatile chemicals and extreme conditions. every year there are refinery deaths, and serious injuries. And FEWER workers and more responsibility. Sure they are good paying jobs, but not ALL of them are top rate. After 24 years I still have dreams of alarms going off and gauges pegging.

they have to take it, just like the nonunion guys do. anyway until the Republicans come forth with a better alternative than Obamacare, and that may be a very long wait.

On several occasions, one of which is to roll OCare back entirely and save the average 34% Americans have experienced in their health care.

Sounds to me this country needs way more oil industry jobs. Now if we can just get a leader who wants to drill baby drill. Or we could just inflate our tires properly. LOL.
